The Warning
The Warning
Joshua fought the battle of Jericho and won an amazing battle. He started his journey to the promised land with a BIG WIN. But in the strategy he received, there was hidden a warning.
English Standard Version Chapter 6
18 But you, keep yourselves from the things devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted them you take any of the devoted things and make the camp of Israel a thing for destruction and bring trouble upon it. 19 But all silver and gold, and every vessel of bronze and iron, are holy to the LORD; they shall go into the treasury of the LORD.”

Today is a tale of warning. Though the boys have confessed, this is a warning for every student, educator, and family member here. Including me!
The Setup

There is temptation, but there is always a way out.
The Price
The Price
Joshua and the leaders of Israel saw that Ai was a small city compared to Jericho, so after sending out spies, they determined to only send 3,000 warriors out of their 10s of 1000s that they could have sent.

We must understand this principle: WHAT YOU DO AFFECTS THOSE AROUND YOU.
What’s done in secret is not secret to God.
And if your parents are in tune with Him, He lets them know something is up.
And if your educators are in tune with Him, He lets them know something is up.
What happens to you, happens to us.
When the football team wins, we ALL win, whether we are there or not. When they lose, we feel it with them.

So they brought the people together in a special school assembly, I mean a specially called business meeting, I mean bringing all the people together. They went tribe by tribe, and pulled out Judah. They went clan by clan, and singled out Zerah, they went family by family, and brought out Zimri, and then person by person, and Achan was singled out.
The Lord is very exact. He knows each of our names. He loves the nations, He loves America, He love Texas, He loves DFW, He loves Haslet, He loves Legacy, and He loves YOU.
Achan confesses.

He told Joshua exactly where he had hidden everything.
The punishment was severe- Achan and his belongings would be stoned. Even his children who participated in his sin were stoned.
The Old Testament way was rough, but we have a better covenant.

Praise God for GRACE!
Yes, we do have Acts 5, with Ananias and Sapphira. They lied to leadership, to Peter and the church. Then they were struck dead by the Holy Spirit. Peter told Ananias, “Satan has so filled your heart that you lied to the Holy Spirit”. And he told Sapphira, “you agreed to test the Spirit of the Lord”.
The message: don’t let Satan so fill your heart with deceit that you deceive yourself into lying to the Holy Spirit.

You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

There are consequences and there are rewards. This was not your parents idea or your educators idea. This was God’s idea.

Take all your fighting men and attack Ai, for I have given you the king of Ai, his people, his town, and his land. 2 You will destroy them as you destroyed Jericho and its king. But this time you may keep the plunder and the livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the town.”

We want you to win. Your parents want you to win. GOD wants you to win.
He has set you up for success, not failure.
He doesn’t tempt you, but He does always provide a “way of escape”.

The Body of Christ
The Body of Christ
When someone sins, it’s not our job to casts stones at the offender like they did with Achan. Under the new covenant, the Lord takes care of the punishment, the leaders hand out the judgement, but brothers and sisters in Christ cast forgiveness, prayer, and love on the offending brother or sister.
Today, we are going to do that for our brothers in Christ.
