Jesus spoke in Parables
used everyday life things to relate to spiritual things
This reminds me of
seed laying out on the wide road will be devoured by lies & manipulation
So this is talking about people who hear the word but do not come to faith
What is the solution to this problem?
Isaiah 28:
breaking up the soil
if you have a place that you want to plant seed in what’s the first thing that you must do?
preparing the soil is the hardest part of planting
that’s why it’s important for believers to invest in non-believers to build a relationship and cultivate the soil prior to sharing the seed
Over the next few weeks I’d like to spend some time talking about believers and our growth
This week I would like to focus on one portion of this parable
Mark 4:
Mark 4:
listen to what paul says about growing proper roots
why is this important?
tough questions come
not able to give adequite answers
trials come
not able to withstand the difficult times
Start with faith and joy
but don’t dig in deep
it will wear off after a while if we don’t have deep roots
Marysville grass on concrete story
Our roots are our commitment to our faith
rocks are things that are keeping us from being commited
Committed to holiness
but sinful lifestyle that you never let go of is keeping you from commiting
Committed with your time
but your time is too precious to give to Him
that’s why you don’t read and meditate on His Word day and night
That’s why you aren’t plugged in to a biblical community more that what you feel is the minimum (Sunday morning)
That’s why you aren’t able to serve in a church ministry or do the work of the Lord in your everyday life
Commited financially
That’s why it’s more important to have the new Nike’s then to give your tithes
If you are not commited then you don’t have roots
If you don’t have roots then you will burn up in the heat
What area of your life may need to have the rocks dug up?
digging up rocks will disrupt everything
the soil will be turned and the surface growth will probably die
your heart will be turned and the fruit of your life will look different
BUT even though this is tough
it’s the only way to grow deep in our faith
