The Need for Power pt 2

Last week
. need to understand our desperate need for Holy Spirit/Power
.The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity
.The Spirit enables us to live in the promise land
. Disciples need to be Disciplined
.The Kingdom of God is more then just words its Power
.The gospel does not simply tell people what they ought to do; in it God gives them power to do it.

So what does this Power do? how does it help us, why do we need it
Ephesians 3:16 NIV
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
So we hear in this first part that one of benefits of having that Holy Spirit/the power is the work that he does in strengthening our inner man/inner person
in the natural we are weak the flesh is weak but the Spirit of God the Spirit of Power is the total opposite, the Holy Spirit is the one who helps us to become disciplined , the work that God does in us in an internal work.
the outside appearance doesn't change, the work that God does that the Spirit does , he works on our character, our integrity, our internal desires. “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
This power enables to us to overcome sin, it is the strength that we need in all situations, we all want to believe that we ourselves are strong enough/can be strong enough to overcome. (its not until we realize that we are not strong enough that we finally allow God to do the work in is)
but the truth is we cant we are so desperately in need of Power, so desperately in need of the Spirit of God

If there is to be an outward expression of the inward, heaven-based reality of the new humanity, it will be realized only through Christ’s progressive inward control of individual Christians in their daily attitudes, decisions, and deeds, both private and communal.

so you see it begins with internal/inward parts of us, then after dealing with things inside of us there can be the outward expression of the things of the kingdom through our lives.
The work that God does with us is a complete work not a partial work, it is one that will last our entire lifetime on this earth, preparing us for eternity with him.
This chapter continues on from speaking about the internal works of the Spirit and begins to talk about the outworking of the things of the Spirit/of heaven.
Ephesians 3:20

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

The incredible things the miraculous things of the Kingdom are meant to be outworked through our lives/our church. and are only possible through the Spirit/power of God that works in us.
to those who don't believe that you are able to see miracles outworked in your life, or don't believe miracles can even happen today i challenge you with Jesus words ( this is not a criticism but simply challenge to begin to believe and understand “Most assuredly is say to you, he who believes in me, the works that i do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because i go to My father.”
I believe that this is Jesus talking about the miracles that will be outworked through those who believe, signs and wonders the Power of the Holy Spirit, but also the work of leading people to know and understand God, that itself is a powerful and miraculous work that Jesus did and we are to do as well.
not only does this power/the Spirit do an internal work in us, it is also the power that enables us see the out workings of the miraculous things of God, things that we could never have imagined, things that we could never have possible done out of our own strength are done by the Power of God.
The Holy Spirit given to us as a gift, is the gift that enable all believers to see and experience the kingdom of heaven here on earth. if we want to do anything for God or his kingdom then we need to first recognize our desperate need for his Power.
You cannot achieve anything of value for God if you don't have the Holy Spirit/the power, you cannot experience the fullness of God without the Holy Spirit/the power.
WE NEED TO BECOME DESPERATE FOE THE POWER OF GOD IN THIS CHURCH AND IN OUR LIVES.
if you want to change and grow, you need the Spirit
if you want our church to change and grow, we need the Spirit
if this community is going to change and grow, they need the Spirit.
Our hope for all things good comes from God, what else is there to hope for in this world other then the things of God, our Joy, our Peace, our freedom all of theses things come from God to us as a result of the Holy Spirit n our lives.
Our God is all of these things Joy,peace,freedom,love,hope, and all these things are in us in abundance when we are connected to the Power/Holy Spirit
Romans 15:13

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is only because of the Holy Spirit that we as believers are able to experience in this life, the blessings of the kingdom of Heaven/ the things that are to come.
WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND OUR DESPERATE NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO AND TO KNOW THE HOLY SPIRIT!
Did you know that Jesus himself needed the Holy Spirit to do what he did??
scripture teaches us that Jesus was both fully man and fully God
The man part of Jesus, needed the Holy Spirit in the same way that you and I need the Holy Spirit, to be empowered foe his ministry Jesus needed the Holy Spirit!
Matthew 3:16

16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.

It was after this moment that the ministry of Jesus really began.
no believer should ever think that they don't have a need for the Power of God in their lives, it is absolutely necessary for us just as it was for Jesus.
Next time we will look at how the scriptures paint a clear picture and give us confidence, that we have received the gift of the Spirit.
Then from there we will begin to discuss the identification of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives, as well as the Gifts of the Spirit that are given to us.
