Introduction:
Someone coming in carrying too many things with no bags (dropping and picking up.) I offer to help, but they insist they don’t have it when they clearly don’t. Eventually I insist on helping.
Big Idea: You don’t have to do it alone so why would you?
Let the church be your plus 1.
For whatever reason we often think we are alone and therefore have to do everything alone. And while perhaps life has taught us that we can only rely on self to get through, perhaps there is a different way a better way.
What if we didn’t have to be alone. What if there were a group of people that bound themselves together to make sure that we were encouraged uplifted and empowered to change the world....together.
Well…that is what the church is supposed to be. That’s what we are North Hills believe that God is leading us to be.
The question is, why would you want to do it alone?
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 ESV
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–11 ESV
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?
Pastor James (preach 8 minutes) Verse 9: “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.” Focus: YOUR FAMILY + NORTH HILLS FAMILY working together will yield a good return Key words/phrases: better, good return, toil Note: “Your family” can be a family associated with NHPS, NHCS, NHC, or not associated with NH at all
Transition by Pastor James: “As many of you know, today is not only Back to School Sunday; it is a special Sunday to recognize and honor Pastor Bill for his seven years of service at North Hills as our Senior Executive Pastor. As Pastor Bill comes up to share the next verse in today’s message, let’s all show our appreciation to Bill and his wife, Debbie, by standing up and giving them a big round of applause!”
