Intro

Last week we began looking at , and with it the truth about the resurrection of Jesus and yes our own resurrection as well.
We started speaking about victory over death. Death is something we think about in life, and I think as we get older perhaps it is more on our mind than ever before.... because we know if Jesus is delayed in coming, death will great each of us.
But the truth of the matter is not about death. It is about Jesus. If you know Jesus or not, if you are familiar with him or not, do you have a personal relationship with him or not....
Because ultimately when death visits our door, our home and life, knowing Him will be all that matters. Having trusted Him as Savior Lord.
Death is not the end, the destination is the end of the road, Heaven or Hell. Do you have your reservation complete, fulfilled, your bags are packed and your are ready to go...
Lets begin where we left off last week, with verse 20 in
Verses 20-22
1 Corinthians 15:20–22 ESV
20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Paul makes certain we do in deed know that Jesus has been raised from the dead.
Many would seek to claim that Jesus was never born and as such never died, the resurrection from the dead proves that Christ was a man, was born, lived and died at the hands of terrible men, as buried in a borrowed tomb and arose on the third day.
The firstfruits speaks to the fact that because he was the first to arise from the dead, he is in fact the first fruits of the grave.
Also in the OT, at the time of the harvest, they priest was to take a sheaf of the first fruits and wave that sheaf before the Lord, one that it might be acceptable to the Lord but also to signal that the entire harvest belonged to the Lord. (Lev 23:9-14).
All that followed was His and so all that will follow Jesus is His as well. Just as Jesus died, was buried and arose, so shall we be raised as well, the fruit of the resurrection.
Verses 21-22 speak to the condition of the world because of Adam and Eve, and yes according to Jesus.
Just as Adam a man brought death in the world, so Jesus has brought death and life, life through the resurrection.
Right now, Adam's power reigns in us, we will face death as long as Jesus second coming is delayed… Adam is the representative head of all mankind. Jesus is the spiritual head.
Now lets look at verses 23-24
1 Corinthians 15:23–24 ESV
23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.
There is always a proper order to how things are done. Jesus was raised first and then as the right time, all those who belong to Him will arise as well.
Verse 24 points that we know the kingdom of God i near when such events in tis happen. The general resurrection of all the dead, the final judgment and the end
Matthew 25:46 ESV
46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
At the end, when Christ has destroyed every principality and power, Now they are subject to him,
Daniel 7:14 ESV
14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
And what God has ordained, no man can get away from, it will take place and He will reconciled all things to himself through the work of Christ Jesus sacrificial death on the cross.
Colossians 1:20 ESV
20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
and
Philippians 2:10–11 ESV
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Now lets look at verses 25-26
1 Corinthians 15:25–26 ESV
25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
Verse 25 draws up in toward the 1000 reign of Christ. Jesus will come and establish His kingdom here on earth. Believers will reign with him and share in His glory and authority, This kingdom prophesied in the OT is the Millennium,
And we know there will be one final rebellion against God and which Jesus will defeat by His power.
The last enemy, death will be destroyed after Satan is punished, here Jesus will have put all things under his feet.
He will then turn His kingdom over the Father, then the new heavens and the new earth will be ushered into place, Revelations 21-22
The putting of his enemies under is feet is one that has been long addressed
Psalm 110 ESV
A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” 2 The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! 3 Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours. 4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” 5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. 6 He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth. 7 He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head.
and
Ephesians 1:15–23 ESV
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
The Lord himself will accomplish all of this....
and now two more verses 27-28
1 Corinthians 15:27–28 ESV
27 For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. 28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
All things, that includes death.. Wont it be wonderful when death has no power over us anymore…
For what God has said it is as if it is has already happened, it is that certain,
Php 3:31
Philippians 3:21 ESV
21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
and
Hebrews 2:8 ESV
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
and
1 Peter 3:22 ESV
22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.
Under his feet, is the footstool… He can then be at rest, it has all been accomplished and is complete.
Go back to verse 28 for a minute
1 Corinthians 15:28 ESV
28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
When the Son will be subject to him .... this is a voluntary action of the Son, even though He is equal with the Father, has counted himself as subject under the Father as a natural son is… but in turn the Father honors the son.
John 5:22–23 ESV
22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
We are gonnna stop there for tonight....
1 Corinthians 15 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 29 Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf? 30 Why are we in danger every hour? 31 I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! 32 What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 34 Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. 35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” 36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 39 For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. 42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. 43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual. 47 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. 50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
