1 Samuel 17:
1.
We will face Trouble (v.41-44)
There was a point in my study for this sermon where I thought to myself, David was just minding his own business, trying to feed his brothers, then ends up fighting a 9.5 foot giant.
He had to of been shook.
There is no doubt that when come come face to face with trouble, especially in cases that could immediately result in death we can become uneasy.
But it is no secret that we will have seasons for trouble.
James says, when, not if.
Here is
But sometimes, we make our trouble into giants.
And we make our giants out to be these big, scary, unbeatable monsters or circumstances.
But it is all about perspective.
The Indiana Medical Journal wrote in 1960 about their observations of Goliath in which they believed that he had a condition called “Acromegaly”.
Which is caused by a benign tumor on your prituitary gland cause your body to produce a constant HGH than a normal person.
Here is what the Indiana Medical Journal wrote in 1960 about their observations of Goliath:
The side effects are:
Shortened range of sight: You can only see things close
Confusion of surroundings
Double vision
2. We Serve a MIGHTY God (v.45-47)
God is in the business of bringing his people out of difficult situations.
i.e.: Noah, Moses, Joseph, Paul and Silas.
God
David proclaims this when he encounters this mountain of a man.
Do you not know who you are facing, I will show you!
3.Giants can be Defeated (v.48-54)
There was a time in high school when I was on the wrestling team.
I was not good, but I was strong, which in my mind, made me good.
We go to a tournament in Cincinnati, Oh.
My first match, I walk out on the mat and this dude has on a hot pink singlet.
He is skin and bones, I am WAY bigger than this guy.
Long story short, he pins me in just under 30 seconds.
I love the fact that the very weapon that was mean’t to kill David became his trophy.
But more than that, He proved something to all of Israel that day; That he was a force to be reckoned with not because of the man he was, but the the God that lived within him.
