James 1:18 ESV
Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

James

The key thought in this verse is

Powerful

God’s Word saves.

James 1:18 ESV
Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Romans 1:17 ESV
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:16 ESV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
The word “by” speaks of the instrument that God uses to bring us into enteral life! That instrument is His word.
Romans 10:13–14 ESV
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Romans 10:13–14 ESV
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Romans 10:17 ESV
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
rom 10 13 -
Romans 10:13 ESV
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Why do we pray the word.
Why do we sing the word, say the word, pray the word, and preach the word.
Because we are convinced that the word does the work.

It is the word that does the work.

Romans 10:17 ESV
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Urgency

God’s Word sanctifies.

James 1:19–20 ESV
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

James 1:19–20 ESV
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

You must hear the word.

James 1:19 ESV
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
Word Study - look at the word translated quick.
ταχύς - (tachys)- means quickly, without delay, at once
It has the idea of urgency. It is the same word used by Matthew after the resurrection of Jesus is discovered.
Matthew 28:8 ESV
So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
James is impressing upon his readers the urgency for the word.
HWays to hear the word.

How can I be quick to hear the word?

Hear the word in public proclamation.

Make the preaching and teaching of the word your priority!

Hear the word in personal meditation.

Make the discipline of devotion a non negotiable part of your life.

Hear the word in devotion.

Hear the word in personal meditation.

I have to say this!
I have go to get this out!
I have to get this off my chest!
Im going to give him a peace of my mind.

When we are in the pressure cocker of life sometimes the sound of our own anger drowns out the voice of our savior.

James 1:19–20 ESV
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Love, not anger, brought Jesus to the cross. Golgotha came as a result of God’s great desire to forgive, not his reluctance. Jesus knew that by his vicarious suffering he could actually absorb all the evil of humanity and so heal it, forgive it, redeem it.
James 1:20 ESV
for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
