Remember Tozer words when we says,
Remember Tozer words when we says,
What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
IN the Beginning GOD…
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
IN the Beginning GOD…
Not in the beginning God was created.
The writer here separated God existence from the time beginning to make the point that God himself was not created but ratter was the source of creation.
In the beginning there was God. Meaning that before time was created God was already God.
And that he was not created in time but he is outside, not limited to and greater than time.
Time does not begin with God because but time begins with God’s creation of it and here we find that times starts when God creates the heavens and the earth.
I want to deal with
3 absolutes.
1. God had no beginning he is uncreated
2. God is creature
3. Creation expresses a personal God
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26 (NASB95)
Let us….
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Let us….
Make man..
Let us for, create man, in our image. After us, like us, according to our likeness.
God is 3 Parts so let us make man in 3 parts
God is, Father, Son, and Spirit
Man is, Body, Soul, and Spirit
Let us make him in our image after our likeness
Man is a spirit
Man was created to be a son of God
Man is to be innovative and creative
and let them rule over…
God, our creature is King and he allows us to be kings in the earth.
So we see let us… God again is 3 parts or 3 persons
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
1 John 5:7 (KJV 1900)
All three were responsible for creation.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
All three were responsible for creation.
The Father
The Father
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,
15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,
Ephesians 3:14–15
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,
The Son
The Son
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
John 1:1–3 (NASB95)
(NASB95)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit
13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; His hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
Job 26:13 KJV
13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens;
what I am about to say next will totally go again the world view of Pantheism with Teaches that the matieral universe is an extension of God.
This points to a person God
8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.
Isaiah 64:8
now this is the person plan of God…
that He should be a father to us
9 Do not hide Your face from me, Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, But the Lord will take me up.
11 Teach me Your way, O Lord, And lead me in a level path Because of my foes.
Psalms 27:9-11)
at times in life it can be hard to see this as a truth because we look at God like our parents on earth..
This is what the Israelites said, “The LORD has forsaken me, and the LORD has forgotten me.”
God’s response to their ridiculous claim was,
14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, And the Lord has forgotten me.”
15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
16 “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.
Isaiah 49:14-16)
)
When the people questioned God’s faithfulness, He pointed them to one of mankind’s most powerful relationships, a nursing mother.
There may be nothing more connecting than the bonding between a mother and her child, but even with a bond as great as that, they can forget. God said I will not forget you. WOW!!!
His bond with His children is so much stronger and so much deeper. His love is so much greater that it is impossible for Him to forget His children.
He says I’ll take it even further than that--I have inscribed you on the palms of My hand.
The proof that the Lord has not forgotten about you is found in His death on the cross.
Every time the Father looks at the Son’s hand it reminds Him of you.
The desire of God from the very beginning was to make us sons and dauthers
7 Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Genesis 2:7)
sin broke this relationship but God has been fighting for all of eternity to get it back
5 A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy habitation.
Psalm 68:5
Now we look at the Father, the 1st person in the Trinity now lets look at the 2nd person in the trinity..
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians 2:5–8 (NASB95)
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Notice equality with God
30 “I and the Father are one.”
John 10:30 (NASB95)
30 “I and the Father are one.”
The Father desired that He might have some sons so He sent His only son
I guess the question is: where does Jesus come in, in all of this?
There is a street that leads the Father’s house and that street’s name is Jesus Christ.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
John 14:6)
)
The way to the Father is found in His Son Jesus and His desire to make us one with Him and the Father.
The Father in heaven loves you so much that He sent His Son to gain sons
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16)
10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10
The Son of God became the Son of Man to make man become sons of God.
What about the Holy Spirit?
What about the Holy Spirit?
19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.
John 5:19)
Jesus came to make man a part of God’s family. When you began to think of the work and life of Jesus Christ--He is the Lamb of God and also the bridegroom.
He came down to save and forgive us and also to marry us.
Then one day he just leaves. Is that right? I remember after high school I started to date this girl that I really liked. I chased after her for months and finally after all that time of pursuing we started to date. Sound like a great story, right? Not so much, because on Christmas Eve after I gave her a present, she dumped me.
Now, that’s not right. Jesus didn’t treat us like a bad girlfriend. He told his disciple,
7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
John 16:7)
Jesus does not do us wrong. He does not just leave us but He sends us some help. In fact, He left so that the Helper can come to us.
The Father sends His Son to gain sons and His Son sends His Spirit to make sons.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love
5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
Ephesians 1:3-5)
Notice again this passage: God the Father of our Lord Jesus has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.
Notice spiritual blessing in heavenly places. Now how did this happen? It happened in Christ Jesus by His works; just as He (the Father) chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.
Notice, He has chosen us in Him before He formed the world.
Meaning it has always been God’s plan to form and make us sons and daughters and to bring His creation to Him so that we could stand unashamed before Him with no condemnation.
The key word we find here is the word “adoption”.
This adoption is much different than earthly adoptions.
In an earthly adoption, the adopted person can receive my name and my home and my family.
They will never receive my DNA, my physical traits or my blood. When God adopts us it is different. He, the Holy Spirit, starts the work of regeneration.
We get a new name, a new home, a new family, by the Spirit we receive God’s DNA, we start to look like Him and act like Him, but the best part is we receive a blood transfusion.
The phrase here “adoption as sons” comes from the Greek word uihothesia. Uihothesia is the compound of uihos, which means son and tithēmi meaning to place or ordain.
So literally adoption means “to place as sons.” Adoption is a work of the Spirit.
The Father draws, Jesus seeks and finds, and the Holy Spirit does the work of adoption and places us as sons right in the presence of the Father
6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Ephesians 2:6)
It was the Holy Spirit who raised Jesus up from the dead and the promise of the Holy Spirit is,
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:11)
As one is entering into sonship, which is being led by God’s Spirit, God the Father does a work in his heart ridding him from fear and bondage and giving him a pure love for the Father.
“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a Spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"
