Background:
A transition from types in the Old Testament to Truths in the New Testament. OOOOh that’s why we did that.
Concealed in the Old Testament revealed in the the New Testament. Practices and rituals.
Leviticus is centered in the middle of the Torah/ Pentateuch.
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy.
All authored by Moses under the inspiration of God.
-Moses wrote with such detail about places and things.
-Jesus said in that it was the book of Moses.
Some people say that a group of people wrote it much later. Don’t call Jesus a liar.
Look back to go forward:
Exodus is Israel coming out of Egypt “The Way Out”
Leviticus is Israel coming in or “The Way In”
Exodus reminds us how we can be delivered form sin.
Leviticus shows us of how we must be dedicated to God.
From the thunder on top of Mt. Sinai also known as mount Moses to the voice of speaking from the Tabernacle.
God moves from off the mountain to the Tabernacle in the center of the Israel’s camp.
To Key phrases in the book of Leviticus:
“And the Lord called unto Moses and spoke unto Him out of the Tabernacle.” used 83 times.
“Be ye holy, for I am holy.”
Three components of the Worship:
One is the Offerer - the person is bringing the offering
Why because either voluntarily or out of volition.
Two is the Offering - the sacrifice which had to be pure
and without blemish. The quantity and the quality
must be the best.
Three is the Officiant - The Levitical priest that would
accept the sacrifice and offer it.
All of these point to Christ the greatest sacrifice.
5 total Offerings
1-3 represents the purity of Christ’s offering
-Burn offering
-Meal offering
-Peace offering
4-5 represents the purpose of Christ’s offering
-Sin offering
-Trespass offering
What do we learn about worship?
The quality was the best observed and prepared.
The offering had to be made as an act. It wasn’t passive but involved. What do you offer? Is that all you do is sit there. That is not worship. What make worship worship participation.
How do you worship at church? How do you worship at Home? Active.
