Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
Get a Proper Perspective of the Church
B. Practically B: Don’t let everybody else do all the work.
B. Practically B: Don’t let everybody else do all the work.
Other people are getting their hands dirty but there’s a group of people in the church who just sit around and let others do all the work. As if they only come to church to see how the church can serve them. Notice what Paul says in v.3. “Read v.3” .
Most of the church is coming together but if I were to guess, Euodia and Syntyche are at odds because one of them are getting frustrated that other believers are standing around doing nothing while they do all the work. And they are probably getting wore out. The only time that they help is if they get something out of it. Otherwise, no dice.
But the interesting thing is, the Philippians who were helping weren’t motivated by greed, they were motivated by their standing with Christ. He is the one reason why they are written in the Book of life. And for them, that’s motivating enough. They already got something that they’ll never be able to repay, salvation. And that allows them to not be content with letting everyone else do the work of ministry, they had a proper practical perspective of the church. And we should follow their example.
