Deuteronomy 6 NIV
1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. 10 When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, 12 be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 13 Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; 15 for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. 16 Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did at Massah. 17 Be sure to keep the commands of the Lord your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. 18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors, 19 thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the Lord said. 20 In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.”
Deuteronomy 6:1–13 NIV

Deuteronomy 6:1-13
the word was so important to the children of Israel and the families
tie them as symbols around their heads and their hands, write them on the door frames
whole nation of Israel - which at this time was considered the church - was to so concentrate on Gods word that when they went into another culture, they would influence the culture they were in instead of the culture influences them they were to do this by concentrating on the word of God, focusing all their attention on
it, teaching it to their children, to even put it on the doorframes of their homes but when we read the Old testament we learn that the children of Israel (the church) disobeyed, went into captivity over and over again, yet Gods love he kept calling them back there was a cycle that they did
Israel disobeys
Israel is oppressed
Israel cries out
Ged raises up a deliverer
israel is delivered
Israel is at peace
Israel disobeys
the cycle that was all thru the old testament - it effected families, it affected the church
bc at one point the pure blood of israel intermingled with foreigners and what was produced
were people with different belief systems and their views of god were not the same
then comes Jesus - and he gives us a new commandment that goes right along with -
-
Love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you mind
old testament was an external serving of God but now we have an internal serving so
we dont have to put something on our doorframes at home - it is in our heart -
we dont externally have to wear something on our heads as a symbol we keep our mind centered on Gods word
but unfortunately we do the same as the Israelites - we disobey, we arent at peace in our homes or out church we have our own cycle that we live in. God already gave us the ultimate deliverer and has already gave us all the tools, but still we fail
difference is now we live in age of Grace and we as humans even take that for granted. Its ok if i.......god will forgive me but God looks on the heart he knows your cycle he knows your motives and this effects the family - personal and church family And my heart aches for God He loves us and wants the cycle broke over and over again he tells us that we are more than conquers , that we can do all things thru christ who strngthens me but we still rely on the flesh
vs. 5 in the new testament - all your heart all your mind all your soul
vs 6 - on your hearts now in your hearts

God designed the family as a unit
Genesis 2:20–25 NIV
20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis 2:20-
started with Adam and Eve - he told them they could have it all - all but one thing and that one thing they wanted and they sinned
Genesis 2:15–17 NIV
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Genesis 2:
God gave them abundant life everything they needed but they decided they needed more of themselves than God their flesh got in the way - a cycle has started
Noah - Sin is going strong and God looks down and says its bad and he tells Noah to build an ark - he did but god didnt say just build the ark and take yourself and the animals - he said noah get your family get your wife and children and their spouses God cares about the family - the family unit and out of the family unit we are suppose to become a church family that shows the world that we are different
So lets go back to the New Testament - children of Israel are under the rule of the Romans and at the right time, Jesus comes on the scene Look at what the angel told Mary when she conceived Jesus
This is amazing, I will be a mother to the Lord!! As his servant, I accept whatever he has for me May everything you have told me come to pass.
For wives, this means being devoted to your husbands like you are tenderly devoted to our Lord, for the husband provides leadership for the wife, just as Christ provides leadership for his church, as the Savior and Reviver of the body. in the same way the church is devoted to Christ, let the wives be devoted to their husbands in everything.
Ephesians 6 NT:TOG
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor your father and your mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. 4 And you fathers, do not provoke your children to anger: but bring them up in the instruction and discipline of the Lord. 5 Servants, be subject to your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to the Christ; 6 not with eye-service, as pleasing men, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the soul; 7 with good will doing service as to the Lord, and not as to men; 8 knowing that whatever good any one does, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he is a servant or a freeman. 9 And you masters, do the same things to them, leaving off threatening, knowing that you yourselves have a master in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him. 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the wiles of the devil: 12 for our conflict is not with flesh and blood, but with the principalities, with the authorities, with the rulers of the darkness of this world, with the wicked spirits in the heavenly regions. 13 Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand them in the evil day, and having overcome them all, to stand firm. 14 Stand, therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and wearing the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having your feet shod with that preparation for defense supplied by the gospel of peace; 16 taking up, over all, the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one: 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 praying with all prayer and supplication, at all times, in the Spirit; and to this end being watchful in all perseverance, and supplication for all the saints: 19 and for me, that speech may be given me, in opening my mouth with boldness, that I may make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an embassador in chains, that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. 21 But that you, also, may know my affairs, how I do, Tychicus, my beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known all things to you; 22 him I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts. 23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.
And to the husbands, you are to demonstrate love for your wives with the same tender devotion that Christ demonstrated to us, his bride. For he died for us, sacrificing himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God. All that he does in us is designed to make us a mature church for his pleasure, until we become a source of praise to him — glorious and radiant, beautiful and holy, without fault or flaw.
Husbands have the obligation of loving and caring for their wives the same way they love and care for their own bodies, for to love your wife is to love your own self. no one abuses his own body, put pampers it — serving and satisfying its needs. that’s exactly what Christ does for his church! he serves and satisfies us as members of his body.
For this reason a man is to leave his father and his mother and lovingly hold to his wife, since the two have become joined as one flesh! Marriage is the beautiful design of the Almighty, a great and sacred mystery — meant to be a vivid example of Christ and his church. So every married man should be gracious to his wife just as he is gracious to himself. and every wife should be tenderly devoted to her husband.
tells us how marriage is suppose to be. It also tells us that marriage is a direct reflection of Christ relationship to us. He is the groom and we are the bride.

Genesis tells us that God breathed life into Adam and then took his rib and created Eve.
He told them to multiply So the family was established
look into the new testament and we see Jesus come onto the seen
Ephesians 6
Ephesians 6:1–4 NT:TOG
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor your father and your mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. 4 And you fathers, do not provoke your children to anger: but bring them up in the instruction and discipline of the Lord.
Could God trust you over your family if he wanted to use you. Joseph in is described as a man that was righteous and full of integrity God had to have someone as an earthly father to Jesus and a mother as an earthly mother to Jesus - it had to be people who served Him whole heartedly Someone who knew who he was and would do what he said to do
you are moms and dads What have you taught your children Do you obey or Mark - do you love the lord YOUR GOD with all your heart soul mind and strength
the family of America is failing even more upsetting is the family of God that is suppose to be the example of this new culture has become more like the world
Jesus brought a new kingdom we are different We are suppose to think different, behave different bc we are a family that has been chosen by god we accepted the invitation
Family - a group of persons united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption enabling interaction between members of the household.
Ephesians 2:19–22 NT:TOG
19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, 20 having been builded upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone, 21 in whom the whole building, compactly fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also are builded together, for a dwelling-place of God by his Spirit.
-2
strangers and foreigners - thats what the world is - they are outside of our family - our spiritual family
but you have accepted Christ you have known his Spirit you are to be different n you are a member of the church of Christ and you have full membership benefits
but just like in the garden of eden - you have all these benefits (all the trees they could partake of) but you choose to do things like the world and you bring heartache to your personal family and then into the body of christ you do the same
the church here is compared to a building - its a metaphor
the foundation of the building is the prophets and the
jesus is the cornerstone - its because of him and the doctrine of the apostles that they taught about jesus - they we become all fit together all fit into one body one building
its why we have to work together
we are to fit together with one goal - to serve and unite the body of christ - to become like jesus - to get people into our family to guide and help them by discipling but we fight amongst ourselves and immediate families are suffering and we are so busy trying to get god to help with our struggles (trick of the enemy) that we take our eyes off of the stuff we need to do stay fittly joined together in the church family
Satan wants us to take our eyes off of Jesus the chief cornerstone it doesnt say we will all be alike in the household of god actually it says that we will have different giftings and some are called to this and others called to that but we destroy and its grieving the heart of god
Ephesians
1 Peter 4:17–19 NT:TOG
17 For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of those who obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous man is hardly saved, where shall the ungodly man and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God, by doing good, commit their souls to him as to a faithful Creator.
I Peter 4:17-
Passion
For the time is ripe for judgement to begin in God’s own household and if it starts with us, what will be the fate of those who refuse to obey the gospel of God? And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the wicked and godless?
where is my church family when i have a son or daughter that is out in the world what will happen to them if you are behaving like you are barely saved? We have a mission just like israel did in the old testament we are to bring this culture, this gospel of Jesus to a world who is dying and in trouble We are responsible to God for what we do.
Lets bring it in to our immediate families
Ephesians 5:22–33 NT:TOG
22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands as to the Lord: 23 for the husband is the head of the wife, as the Christ also is the head of the church; and he is the savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to the Christ, so, also, let the wives be subject to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as the Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it, 26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the bath of water through the word, 27 in order that he might present it to himself a glorious church, having neither stain, nor wrinkle, nor any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Christ the church: 30 because we are members of his body, being of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. 32 Great is this mystery; but I speak of Christ and of the church. 33 But yet, let each one of you so love his wife as himself; and let the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Ephesians 5:22-
Passion
For wives, this means being devoted to your husbands like you are tenderly devoted to our Lord, for the husband provides leadership for the wife, just as Christ provides leadership for his church, as the Savior and Reviver of the body. in the same way the church is devoted to Christ, let the wives be devoted to their husbands in everything.
and to the husbands, you are to demonstrate love for your wives with the same tender devotion that Christ demonstrated to us, his bride. For he died for us, sacrificing himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through h4e showering of the pure water of the Word of God all that he does in us is designed to make us a mature church for his pleasure, until we become a source of praise to him —glorious and radiant, beautiful and holy, without fault or flaw.
husbands have the obligation of loving and caring for their wives the same way they love and care for their own bodies, for to love your wife is to love your own self. no one abuses his own body, but pampers it — serving and satisfying its needs thats exactly what christ does for his church! he serves and satisfies us as members of his body.
for this reason a man is to leave his father and mother and lovingly hold to his wife since the two have become joined as one flesh. marriage is the beautiful design of the Almighty, a great and sacred mystery, meant to be a vivid example of Christ and his church So every married man should be gracious to his wife just as he is gracious to himself and every wife should be tenderly devoted to her husband
why does the enemy fight families and marriages so hard -
because marriage is a vivid example of christ and his church
your marriage is an example of Christ love and affection to you, his love and kindness, his caring and thoughtfulness. and that is an example to the world outside the church that Jesus is real and he cares
families are being torn apart in the church - the world has come in and the culture of freedom and heaven on earth is being shattered bc of marriages -
offenses are in them - everyone is hurt and flesh rises up
we need to repent
i hear it in my office all the time but he ....... but she......... where is forgiveness where is crucifying my flesh like christ where is prayer and humbling yourself before the lord
sometimes it cant be helped i have seen many broken people bc their spouse did something god hears them and wants to heal them
some of you may have unbelieving spouses - my heart goes out to you
but when two believers choose to just fight and be bitter instead of taking responsibility for their own sin, where are we at
your confess christ as your savior, you have a church family and an immediate family that you are responsible to not for but to
i dont want to be like the children of israel and continue in a cycle that one minute im where god wants me to be and the next im offended and the offense becomes bigger than than what god has told me to do
he has told me how to think
he has told me to put my flesh in subjection to my spirit
he said that this world would be full of trouble but he gave us spiritual warfare to fight the trouble
we will go thru things your marriage will be fought but what are you going to do with it
you are a stone that is fit together with Jesus and being build with other believers
your marriage is a direct reflection to the world of Jesus and his bride
MEN - YOU CANT LEAD WHERE YOU WONT GO
nurture one another -
connect - heart to heart - break down the walls -
Matthew 18:21-22
Matthew 18:21–22 NT:TOG
21 Then Peter came to him, and said: Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? 22 Jesus said to him: I say to you, Not till seven times, but till seventy times seven.
Acts 2:42–47 NT:TOG
42 And they attended constantly to the teaching of the apostles, and the fellowship, and the breaking of bread, and the prayers. 43 And fear came on every soul; and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; 45 and they sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, as each had need. 46 And with one consent, they continued daily in the temple; and, breaking bread from house to house, they partook of their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God, and being in favor with all the people. And the Lord added the saved daily to the Church.
If is all about meditating and learning the scriptures, and the new testament says they attended constantly in teaching, communion, and prayer they gave to each other as needed and look at the results
signs and wonders and people were being save
thats my vision to see signs and wonders in this church family for people to be saved and hunger for god
we have work to do leaders but judgement starts at the house of god - it starts with the leaders
Hebrews 10:22–25 NT:TOG
22 let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water; 23 let us hold fast the unwavering confession of our hope, for he is faithful who has promised; 24 and let us consider one another that we may excite to love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the custom of some; but exhorting one another, and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.
I corinthians
1 Corinthians 14:26 NT:TOG
26 What, then, is it, brethren? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, has something to teach, has an unknown tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
James 5:16 NT:TOG
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that you may be restored to health: the fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Hebrews 10:24 NT:TOG
24 and let us consider one another that we may excite to love and good works,
this is how healing takes place when i hurt my spouse and they tell me, i take responsibility and confess it im not telling you to repent in a way that you list everything you have ever done but forgiveness needs to happen what are you reponsible for in your marriage, in the house of god, with your children
