Who is the Cornerstone? Jesus Christ
3 Characteristics of the Cornerstone
The Cornerstone is Alive - Vs. 4
The Cornerstone is Alive - Vs. 4
Jesus declares He is alive
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
Why is it important or why does it matter that Jesus is alive?
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
Your faith is worthless if Jesus isn’t alive
Your sins are still held against you
For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Jesus appeared to the disciples for 40 days
How do we know this wasn’t just a big GOTCHA by the disciples to gain fame and wealth?
Practical joke - anyone willing to die for it?
Jesus didn’t survive His wounds, He died and rose again

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

Found in the cornerstone that died and gave new life
leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison.
Matthew 5:24-
Stability, hope, strength, found in the cornerstone, the rock of our salvation
The Cornerstone is offensive

Boy Scouts - Dad and Lad, Hitting a stump
We are offended by what we stump our toe with, not our own fault
Cornerstone is a stumbling block
Read
Following after Christ IS going to be offensive to someone you come in contact with at some point
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 1:
Jesus is aggravating to those who refuse to hear Him - The Gospel demands a response
We take refuge in the Cornerstone
John 15:18-
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.
John 16:
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Our faith rests in the Cornerstone
