1. the characteristics of a healthy church
A. Regular fellowship
taught public and from house to house.
- same thing
Fellowship now is a lose term.
Fellowship than was regular and with other people.
Implied a sharing of things… A give and take relationship.
Lady in front of me at dollar general.
I don’t like the new pastor, he gets on my nerves.
That’s the second one that I got into a fight with it.
But I have a bible, I can read it and watch on tv and it will be just as good.
I can meet with God anywhere.
I don’t need a church.
Wrong.
The real question is: Are you commited to it?
You can have it if you want it.
A healthy church experience includes regular fellowship.
Church is not just about information is about sharing that information with others.
It’s assimilating and processing information.
This is done in both big groups and small groups.
Christians are mentioned in the bible as sheep.
How do ship life?
In flocks.
Where do they find their strenght.
In the number of their flock.
When do they become vulnerable?
When they are all alone, no other sheep, and more importantly, no shepherd.
B. Spiritual Leadership
- served with humility
- preached and taught to Jews and Greeks
- going to jerusalem and risking his life for the sake of the gospel.
- take care of the flock
Verses 17 and 28 2 words: elders, overseers, shepherd...
Same person, different functions.
Shepherd to tend to flock or to lead them to pasture.
But shepherds must understand that Jesus purchased the church with His blood.
Someone already bought the church and it was not the pastor.
Someone already made the ultimate sacrifice for the people at this church and it was not me.
Now I get to lead this church, to pastor, to shepherd.
This is Gods church and being a shepherd is the the greatest assignment ever…
C. Consistent Spiritual Diet
They study the whole council of God.
The growing of the church is Gods business.
Paul just preached the whole council of God.
Paul taught a long time but not what on his mind.
He taught the whole plan of God.
In the last 1 1/2
Nehemiah, 1 John, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Habakkuk.
Now we are going through Joshua and almost done with Acts.
The church is to be a training center for the word of God.
“For at no time since the Reformation have Christians as a body been so unsure, tentative, and confused as to what they should believe and do.
The outside observer sees us as staggering from gimmick to gimmick and stunt to stunt like a drunk in the fog.
“Why is this?
We blame the external pressures of our world, but this is like Eve blaming the serpent.
The real trouble is that for two generations or more our churches have suffered from a famine of hearing the Word of the Lord.” - J. I. Packer
4. Prayer
Prayer is like oxygen.
If my prayer life changed would it be dramatic?
The attendance on Sunday morning indicates the popularity of the church.
Sunday night the pastor.

Every growing church will experience attacks.
2 types of attacks.
Outward and Inward
Outward
False Prophets from outside.
Wolf in Sheep clothing.
They look like the real thing but are nothing but an imitation.
whole milk vs soy milk or almond milk.
Ice cream vs Greek yogurt.
Christ-Antichrist-- prophets- false prophets-- teacher- false teachers.
Inward
from among yourselves.
10 years Greeks tried to get into the city of Troy.
Trojan Horse.
What the soldiers couldn't do in 10 years a few man manage to do it in one night.
The Devil tried for years to destroy the church from the outside until he found a easier way.
This is why Acts 20:31 is great.
Why pastoral leadership is so important.
This is why having a pastor and allowing your pastor to shepherd you is important.
