Call to Worship
Hebrews 13:15 NKJV
15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
Offering Scripture
Luke 16:10–12 NKJV
10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?
Prayer Ministry
1 Timothy 2:8 NKJV
8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
Last week
We Said your purpose has nothing to do with you and everything to do with God and His Glory.
God looks at my heart while the world looks for itself in me.
what is now will not be for tomorrow.
This week
the importance of obedience in any Kind of life.
the Lord used a spiritual gift to bring David up.
we are going to touch on the importance of home training.
we need not despise our time of training.
Key Text
1 Samuel 16:14–23 NKJV
14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him. 15 And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you. 16 Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.” 17 So Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.” 18 Then one of the servants answered and said, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.” 19 Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.” 20 And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by his son David to Saul. 21 So David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly, and he became his armorbearer. 22 Then Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.” 23 And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.

1. Obedience to God and His instruction is the foundation key to a Christian’s success life.

1 Samuel 16:14 NKJV
14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.
Saul’s disobedience lost Him the Kingdom of Israel
1 Samuel 15:22 NKJV
22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.
Proverbs 3:5–7 NKJV
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
1 Peter 5:6 NKJV
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

2. The Father Used all of David’s gifts to move him up. God started with the his worship life.

1 Samuel 16:15–17 NKJV
15 And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you. 16 Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.” 17 So Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”
Proverbs 18:16 NKJV
16 A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.
Time with God is never wasted.
sometimes we get choked by the cares and problems of the world to effectively engage in spiritual disciplines.
what has God placed in your spiritual life that God is going to use to open doors in your life.

3. In order to walk in you purpose we need personal development in our lives.

1 Samuel 16:18 NKJV
18 Then one of the servants answered and said, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.”
He used skills he already had---- Playing the harp.
Valor in this instance means bravery.
Skilled in battle (another skill that allowed him to be an armor bearer.)
Prudent in speech—Manors.
Handsome in appearance – you can’t do much about what your born with, but you can do something about how you present yourself. You can also do something about how you carry yourself.
we have to be devolving what the world calls “soft skills.”
you cant hold on to where you’ve been and get where you are going.
I know about this from personal experience.

4. we have to respect our time of training.

1 Samuel 16:19–23 NKJV
19 Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.” 20 And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by his son David to Saul. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.
there is always a time of service before there is a leadership.
expound.
Zechariah 4:10 NKJV
10 For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”
Benediction
it is my prayer for you that you humble yourself under the Mighty Hand of God.
I pray that you will seek the gift of God in you and develop it until you are skilled at it.
Lord we ask that you bring to our remembrance our home training.
Lord help us to serve before we lead that we may be seasoned leaders when our time comes.
