Looking at the question of peace last week. Do we have a transformed heart or a morally restrained heart. One leads to life and freedom the other not so much.

1. Reviewing Peace

Colossians 3:14–17 HCSB
14 Above all, put on love—the perfect bond of unity. 15 And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful. 16 Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

A. What is it?

i. peace is a living power that comes into your life

it’s a marching Guard and a referee

ii. Peace must rule from within

John 14:27 HCSB
27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.
\There is a peace that comes from the world. Worldly kind of peace which is dependent on circumstances of life. It’s a stupid peace.
There is a peace that comes from the world. Worldly kind of peace which is dependent on circumstances of life. It’s a stupid peace.

iii. IT’s The Peace of Jesus Not of the world

B. How Do I Obtain it?

i. THINK OUT life. Therefore---Set = Logic

Colossians 3:1 HCSB
1 So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God.
Since, Then. “Set your heart on things above.”
Since, Then. “Set your heart on things above.”
Commit your life to the discovery process
What does the chain of evidence tell you.
Do the intellectual work
Thinking forces you to look at it completely and honestly and then you are in a position to deal with it.

ii. DIG DOWN

Colossians 3:5 HCSB
5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.
5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry

iii. LOOK UP

Colossians 3:3–4:3 HCSB
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. 4 When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. 5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, God’s wrath comes on the disobedient, 7 and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. 8 But now you must also put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator. 11 In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive. 18 Wives, be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and don’t be bitter toward them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so they won’t become discouraged. 22 Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don’t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism. 1 Masters, supply your slaves with what is right and fair, since you know that you too have a Master in heaven. 2 Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the message, to speak the mystery of the Messiah, for which I am in prison,
Colossians 3:3–4 HCSB

Your entire life is rooted in the trust in this promise. Your connection to//relationship to// Jesus is all you got to get you to the other side. For life beyone the grave.

That said lets look at this in light of some material that will be familiar to us a bit.

2. Worldview

The western model for life is rooted in giving your mind the tools to work with so that you can understand and navigate life. The problem is that Stupid peace we are talking about. Unless there is a reckoning with the core issues in life then there will be no transformation or successful navigation of life without hurting the most valuable thing in the world. Those people around us and ourselves in the process.
So on the intellectual front we need to make decisions to transform the worldview we are fed day in and day out verses the one we need.
What does that take?
