I Declare Unto You The Gospel

Introduction

It is my distinct honor, duty and privilege to declare the gospel message this morning

gospel = good news or tidings

The death, burial, resurrection and witnessing of Jesus Christ according to the Scriptures is good news indeed!

Why? Sin is a major problem

Sin is the violation of God’s law (; )

Everyone that has reached an accountable age has sinned (, )

Sin causes death or separation from God (; )

Christ is the solution to the sin problem! ()

Thus we must have an understanding of the gospel, we must obey it and hold to it ()

Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures ()

Shortly after man sinned the prophecy of the Christ was made by God ()

The “bruising of his heel” is a reference to the death of Christ

The death of Christ was necessary to draw men to Him ()

Jesus knew what death He was going to die (; )

Furthermore, Jesus knew it was a necessity () and that it would prove that He is God ()

Christ died a horrible death of crucifixion ()

Christ

Prior to His crucifixion He was brutally beaten ()

Afterwards He was unrecognizable ()

Prior to His crucifixion He was humiliated ()

On the cross He was mocked ()

Jesus died ()

His death made the forgiveness of our sins possible (; )

Christ was buried ()

After Christ’s death, His body was placed in Joseph of Arimathaea’s unused tomb (; “wherein never man before was laid” )

According to the scriptures ()

Jesus was buried for three days and three nights (; )

His body would not see corruption (; )

hell = Sheol (the unseen realm or all-receiving place of the dead)

hell = Hades (the unseen realm or all-receiving place of the dead)

Christ was resurrected ()

On the third day, He was resurrected (; )

The third day was the first day of the week (; ; ; )

His resurrection is key to Christianity ()

Christ arose! ()

Christ was seen of many witnesses ()

Christ was seen of Peter ()

Christ was seen of the apostles ()

Paul saw the risen Savior (, , )

He had a lot going for him but he counted all those things loss for Christ ()

This is powerful evidence for the resurrected Jesus!

Conclusion

Jesus died for our sins, He was buried for three days and three nights, He was resurrected on the third day and seen of many witnesses

This is good news for we have freedom from our sins through the blood of Christ!
