Back to the Basics

OPEN: Vince Lombardi, legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960’s focused on the fundamentals of the game. He started at the beginning and took nothing for granted. His team finished 2nd place during the 1960 season. In the first practice of the 1961 season, Lombardi walked in, held up the ball and said, “gentlemen, this is a football.”

Transition: Starting at the beginning and focusing on the fundamentals was a good strategy. Lombardi’s team won the championship in 1961.

Christianity is different from football, but we can learn from Lombardi’s strategy in the area of fundamentals. It is past time for the Church of Jesus to get back to the Basics, and focus on the simple, yet effective plan that God set forth in the book of Genesis

We are created beings, and God is the Creator ()

We are created in the Image of God ()

We are created in a gender binary, male & female ()

We are created with the purpose of fulfilling a mission ()

Our Ultimate Purpose is to glorify God
