“LOST LOVE”
“LOST LOVE”
Brief Summary:
God writes this letter to the Church of Ephesus. The book of Ephesians is the same people that God writes too in the 2nd Chapter of Revelation. Ephesus was a cosmopolitan, cultural city. Filled with rich and poor alike. Home to one of the seven wonders of the World, the the temple of Diana. The temple of Diana was the theater of immorality. Great revenue was driven from the sales of the statue of Diana.
Prostitution was part of the religious practices in that city. Paul establishes the Church of Ephesus on his second missionary trip. He spent three years there.
The letters of Ephesians were written by Paul to the christian church in that city.
Paul had established Timothy as the Pastor in the city of Ephesus. The two letters Paul wrote to Timothy ( 1st & 2nd Timothy) were during the time that Timothy was pastoring the church of Ephesus.
The letter was written to this church, so you get an idea of what kind of church God was speaking to.
Lets get right into the word.
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
2 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
Revelation 2:
First thing we see that this church was a dynamic Church.
“I KNOW YOUR WORKS”
“I KNOW YOUR WORKS”
We often Deemphasize the importance of “GOOD WORKS” because we do not want to water down the importance of Grace.
We know that we are not saved by works but by grace, but we also know that it is okay to do good deeds.
The church of Ephesus were a good working church.
The bible says because of the works of Ephesus that the gospel was being spread throughout all of Asia as a results of
the activities of this local church, in this immoral city.
Acts says,
10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
Because of the dynamics of that church the whole area was being flooding with the Gospel.
This church was on fire for God!
This church was on fire for God!
“i know your works
"I KNOW YOUR LABOUR”
"I KNOW YOUR LABOUR”
Labour - to work at the point of exhaustion (example of you at your job). The Ephesians were paying a price to serve the Lord. They were pressing the limits. This was a good church.
I thank God that while i have been blessed to be the youth pastor or in charge in other positions. Every time i would ask someone for help or assistance or a favor. There were always people willing and able to assist. That is a great blessing for any church!
Men, woman, young people. People of God always willing to assist in service to any capacity.
bible says as well that they were determined.
“and you have persevered and have patience”
“and you have persevered and have patience”
This kind of patience that endures, but maintains a forward motion. This was patience as they served and as they suffered for the sake of the gospel.
:
we read the fierce opposition the Ephesian Church encountered. The people there in the church, many were hated and despised, but they did not give up. They persevered. They were patience in their afflictions and us christians like the Ephesians. They got better as things get tougher.
Do i have a witness? As a the enemy attacks, yes it may seem difficult, yes i may feel alone, week, and ready to throw in the towel.
I remember the word of GOD,
“THOUGH I AM WEAK, I AM STRONG”
The Ephesians church was tougher than nails, especially when they confronted opposition.
This church was a well disciplined church.......
“and that you cannot bear those who are evil”
“and that you cannot bear those who are evil”
They would not not tolerate evil and would practice spiritual discipline, if necessary. They were patience when it came
to service and suffering, but they were not patience when it came to sining.
They stood for truth and for what was right.
They were a discerning truth.....
“and you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not and have found them liars”
“and you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not and have found them liars”
During the early church some went around from the churches who had been established and claimed that they were sent by the church by one of the apostles. Claiming to be apostles.
They would used the Apostles name to gain an entrance into the church, and bring all their crazy doctrine.
The bible says they came to the church of Ephesus and saw them how they were, did not allow them to preach such false doctrine.
Revelation
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
That is how we should all be. We should care about our doctrine and not let our children get brain washed by other doctrines, teachings, philosophies. We should instruct them in the ways of the lord
and in the biblical truth of the word of God.
This church was:
Dynamic Church
Dedicated Church
Determined Church
Disciplined Church
Discerning Church
But it was also a declining Church
But it was also a declining Church
You may say, Brother Moses “HOW CAN THIS BE?”
How can that church will all of those good qualities, but be a declining church?!
4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Let that sink in for a moment. Outwardly that was a perfect modeling Church.
Jesus saw past all of that and saw they they lost their first love
You see you can do ministry and yet not have a relationship with God.
Did you know that Gods things can take away Gods place?
G.P. Morgan said.....
“ No amount of activity in the kings service will make up for the neglect of the king”
On the outside this church had it all together, but in the in inside they were far, far from God.
:
THEY LOST THEIR FIRST LOVE
THEY LOST THEIR FIRST LOVE
We see that they were at first madly in love for them
4 Draw me, we will run after thee: The king hath brought me into his chambers: We will be glad and rejoice in thee, We will remember thy love more than wine: The upright love thee.
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
ACTS 19:10-
10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
The Bible also says that Paul re- baptized them and were filled this the Holy Ghost. They were consumed with such passion, for the presence of God.
They were in the Chambers of the King (God) daily.
2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: For thy love is better than wine.
1 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s. 2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: For thy love is better than wine. 3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments Thy name is as ointment poured forth, Therefore do the virgins love thee. 4 Draw me, we will run after thee: The king hath brought me into his chambers: We will be glad and rejoice in thee, We will remember thy love more than wine: The upright love thee.

song of solomon 1:
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth”
this was a direct, face to face contact with the king.
Do you remember when you fell in LOVE with God? When you were first filled with the Holy Spirit?
kiss - to touch with the lips, as a gesture of affection and mutual relationship, or submission
(Not an emotional kiss, but a kiss out of love and relationship)
this was a direct, face to face contact with the king.
Do you remember when you first fell in LOVE with God? (or even your spouse) When you were first filled with the Holy Spirit?
That turned your world upside down!
You in the secret place with God, daily! You were in his chambers constantly.
CHAMBERS:
Chambers:
Private room, inner room, chamber. A private area.
Moses was hungry to see the Glory of God and to be in his presence. He told God, “SHOW ME THY GLORY” He wanted more than what he was receiving.
The bible says that Moses face was so bright that he had to cover himself after he saw the backside of God.
The phrase “With unveiled face beholding… the glory of the Lord” refers to being intimate with God in the Holy of Holies, even as Moses was. After such times of intimate communion with God in the Holiest place, Moses would come out glowing with the Glory of God.
29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. 30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. 31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. 32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. 34 But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. 35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
God told the people of Ephesus that they had left “their first love”
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
First = first in rank, influence, honor, the chief principle.
They were too busy in the work of the King, and forgot about the KING.
God prefers devotion rather than Doctrine.
Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
God was referring to their love for him in the means of intimate relationship with him.

Do you remember when you fell in LOVE with God? When you were first filled with the Holy Spirit?
That turned your world upside down!
Before you/they use to enter into the chambers of the King, DAILY!
There was such a passion to seek him and feel his presence and for his word!
My personal examples:
A. Passion for God’s word
B. the Gathering’s
C. Passion to pray and seek his face
His love what much better than anything else!
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
matthew 10:
matthew 10:38
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Real love is mr above all.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, My flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
psalms
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Don’t want to get into detail and debate on who wrote this specific psalm. Many scholars are inclined that David did.
“He that dwelleth”
Dwelleth = dwell, live, stay. Live for a long period of time. To “ABIDE”.
dwell, live, stay
Question:
If God dwells in pure brightness, how can there be a shadow? Where there is light, it removes all shadows. Even James in is book says.....
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
We see in the book of 2nd Samuel after David captured against the enemy he brought the arc back into the city that they were singing, dancing, rejoicing. in
Bible says that David prepared a special tent for the Ark of the covenant after he captured Mount Zion and placed it on mount Zion.
After he captured Mount Zion the bi
1 And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.
According to many scholars/LOGOS.
The tabernacle that David housed was only for the Ark of covenant and did not contain a veil.
Men were permitted to worship in the presence of the ARK.
As Matter of fact, many of the psalms that were sung were first recorded by the scribes in the area of the Tabernacle.
Such fresh understanding of this is given when you read the books of Psalms.
6 Yet have I set my king Upon my holy hill of Zion.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
PSALMS
1 Lord, Who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
PSALMS
3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place?
PSALMS
Mountain Zion, become known as “THE HILL OF THE LORD”
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
“Thy love is better than wine”
“Thy love is better than wine”
His presence, love. grace, mercy was way far better than wine!
As we know the ark of the Covenant was two Cherubim
Facing each other with their spread out, touching each other
In the O.T. Bible says that God dwelt in the mercy seat (in between the two mercy seats)
At the time of Davids tabernacle the king covering (roof) could be removed over the area where the Ark stood on the
rock
As the sun arose from the east the light from the sun would reflect on the Golden wings
Therefore there was a casting shadow on the rock itself where the ark was sitting.
At
Now,
no one except the priest was permitted to touch the Ark.
David say i know i cannot touch the Ark, but i can only be under its shadow!
He desire the abide in the shadow of the presence of God.
8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
matthew
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Jesus desired for is to abide in him and under his wings and his presence
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
“ THY LOVE IS BETTER THAN WINE”
“ THY LOVE IS BETTER THAN WINE”
WINE -
His affection for you is even more powerful than the good wine of blessing,
While it’s true that she is saying His love, His Word is better than sin, which is an easy and obvious interpretation to make of this passage, but it’s only part true. It’s also better than the good things, the non-sinful but yet still empty pleasures of this world. She uses the wine metaphor here to say that His love “exhilarates her heart.”
Wine also helps numb individuals to the cares of this world. The lost drink away their sorrows and troubles, and for them, the wine is a way of escape. But for the Shulamite, it’s not an escape. She’s saying this is more satisfying than even any of the privileges this life has to offer. Wine is the drink of gladness that makes people happy who drink it.
She finds His love more satisfying than this drink of gladness.
He loved you since the beginning. The ENTIRE is a love story of God towards you!
There are for shadows and puns of the future. That God was come to pay the ultimate sacrifice and shows his agape
love to us.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 41 I receive not honour from men. 42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. 43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Many other verses!
Many other verses!
His love is far better than this wine the world offers!
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
The very first miracle that Jesus does was at a wedding.
In God there is no coincidences. His first miracle was at a wedding.
I believe that is because Jesus wanted to make a statement and to establish a point.
His ministry this new era is going to be based off of marriage and relationship!
JOHN 2:1-
(his disciples were there)
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
INTIMACY
INTIMACY
Everybody there was alright. There was no needs, sicknesses, or diseases or poverty of such kind.
(that can be us , no desire for for anything just enjoying life and they are drinking of the wine the world has to offer)
But as soon as they run out, Mary tells Jesus we need wine is no more wine!
Let me tell you the wine that Jesus offers is not of this world!
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
He tells the servants to grab 6 water pots
6 - the humanity - man
water pots - An earthen vessel, or jar, for carrying or holding water.
Fill it with water which represents the holy spirit
“fill them to the brim” = to the very top! God wants us to be over flowing with his spirit daily!
“The wine that Jesus gave is far better than the earthly wine”
Jesus offers new wine! Jesus wants us a new thing with us daily!
HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING.
God wants to do a new thing in us daily, he wants us to be refreshed by his spirit daily.
many times God wants to pour new in us, but we do not have the capacity to be filled
33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? 34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? 35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
luke 5:
Grapes = fermentation = wine
1. skins of grapes already have yeast growing on them.
2. As grapes are crushed juice begins fermenting spontaneously.
3. Yeast turns into the natural sugar in the grape juice into alcohol and carbon dioxide.
4. Fermentation process often continues after the wine has been stored in a wineskin.
5. The release of the carbon dioxide causes the wineskin to expand.
You cannot be refilled again with following traditions, rules and guid lines
God is say i want to pour my love (new wine) into you! (wine represents his blood/love and holy spirit)
God is say i want to pour my love (new wine) into you! (wine represents his blood/love and holy spirit)
But it cannot fit in an old wine skin!
Remember where thou has fallen, and return to me.
Remember the cross, remember how he saved and died for you and for your sins .
This new wine was made out of agape love and the process of was horrific
Grapes = wine press = wine
Grapes = wine press = wine
10 And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; And in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: The treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.
15 The Lord hath trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: He hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: The Lord hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.
13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: Come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; For their wickedness is great.
lamentations
God suffered the cross so that you and i can live in his love, mercy, grace.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: And we hid as it were our faces from him; He was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, And carried our sorrows: Yet we did esteem him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
4 Draw me, we will run after thee: The king hath brought me into his chambers: We will be glad and rejoice in thee, We will remember thy love more than wine: The upright love thee.
“DRAW ME”
“DRAW ME”
Draw = pull - drag - stretch.
stretch once more reach out to him! Return to your first love!
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Jesus was stretched on the cross for you and me
Above all once more in your life.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
