“LOST LOVE”
Brief Summary:
God writes this letter to the Church of Ephesus.
The book of Ephesians is the same people that God writes too in the 2nd Chapter of Revelation.
Ephesus was a cosmopolitan, cultural city.
Filled with rich and poor alike.
Home to one of the seven wonders of the World, the the temple of Diana.
The temple of Diana was the theater of immorality.
Great revenue was driven from the sales of the statue of Diana.
Prostitution was part of the religious practices in that city.
Paul establishes the Church of Ephesus on his second missionary trip.
He spent three years there.
The letters of Ephesians were written by Paul to the christian church in that city.
Paul had established Timothy as the Pastor in the city of Ephesus.
The two letters Paul wrote to Timothy ( 1st & 2nd Timothy) were during the time that Timothy was pastoring the church of Ephesus.
The letter was written to this church, so you get an idea of what kind of church God was speaking to.
Lets get right into the word.
Revelation 2:
First thing we see that this church was a dynamic Church.
“I KNOW YOUR WORKS”
We often Deemphasize the importance of “GOOD WORKS” because we do not want to water down the importance of Grace.
We know that we are not saved by works but by grace, but we also know that it is okay to do good deeds.
The church of Ephesus were a good working church.
The bible says because of the works of Ephesus that the gospel was being spread throughout all of Asia as a results of
the activities of this local church, in this immoral city.
Acts says,
Because of the dynamics of that church the whole area was being flooding with the Gospel.
This church was on fire for God!
“i know your works
"I KNOW YOUR LABOUR”
Labour - to work at the point of exhaustion (example of you at your job).
The Ephesians were paying a price to serve the Lord.
They were pressing the limits.
This was a good church.
I thank God that while i have been blessed to be the youth pastor or in charge in other positions.
Every time i would ask someone for help or assistance or a favor.
There were always people willing and able to assist.
That is a great blessing for any church!
Men, woman, young people.
People of God always willing to assist in service to any capacity.
bible says as well that they were determined.
“and you have persevered and have patience”
This kind of patience that endures, but maintains a forward motion.
This was patience as they served and as they suffered for the sake of the gospel.
:
we read the fierce opposition the Ephesian Church encountered.
The people there in the church, many were hated and despised, but they did not give up.
They persevered.
They were patience in their afflictions and us christians like the Ephesians.
They got better as things get tougher.
Do i have a witness?
As a the enemy attacks, yes it may seem difficult, yes i may feel alone, week, and ready to throw in the towel.
I remember the word of GOD,
“THOUGH I AM WEAK, I AM STRONG”
The Ephesians church was tougher than nails, especially when they confronted opposition.
This church was a well disciplined church.......
“and that you cannot bear those who are evil”
They would not not tolerate evil and would practice spiritual discipline, if necessary.
They were patience when it came
to service and suffering, but they were not patience when it came to sining.
They stood for truth and for what was right.
They were a discerning truth.....
“and you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not and have found them liars”
During the early church some went around from the churches who had been established and claimed that they were sent by the church by one of the apostles.
Claiming to be apostles.
They would used the Apostles name to gain an entrance into the church, and bring all their crazy doctrine.
The bible says they came to the church of Ephesus and saw them how they were, did not allow them to preach such false doctrine.
Revelation
That is how we should all be.
We should care about our doctrine and not let our children get brain washed by other doctrines, teachings, philosophies.
We should instruct them in the ways of the lord
and in the biblical truth of the word of God.
This church was:
Dynamic Church
Dedicated Church
Determined Church
Disciplined Church
Discerning Church
But it was also a declining Church
You may say, Brother Moses “HOW CAN THIS BE?”
How can that church will all of those good qualities, but be a declining church?!
Let that sink in for a moment.
Outwardly that was a perfect modeling Church.
Jesus saw past all of that and saw they they lost their first love
You see you can do ministry and yet not have a relationship with God.
Did you know that Gods things can take away Gods place?
G.P. Morgan said.....
“ No amount of activity in the kings service will make up for the neglect of the king”
On the outside this church had it all together, but in the in inside they were far, far from God.
:
THEY LOST THEIR FIRST LOVE
We see that they were at first madly in love for them
ACTS 19:10-
The Bible also says that Paul re- baptized them and were filled this the Holy Ghost.
They were consumed with such passion, for the presence of God.
They were in the Chambers of the King (God) daily.
song of solomon 1:
song of solomon 1:
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth”
this was a direct, face to face contact with the king.
Do you remember when you fell in LOVE with God?
When you were first filled with the Holy Spirit?
