A - O SEU PECADO: UMA PROSTITUTA (v.36-37a)
It was considered virtuous to invite a teacher over for dinner, especially if the teacher were from out of town or had just taught at the synagogue. That they are “reclining” rather than sitting indicates that they are using couches rather than chairs and that this is a banquet, perhaps in honor of the famous guest teacher.
If the Pharisee is well-to-do, he may have a servant as a porter to check visitors at the door; but religious people often opened their homes for the poor, and the woman manages to get in. In banquets where uninvited people could enter, they were to remain quiet and away from the couches, observing the discussions of host and guests. Alabaster was considered the most appropriate container for perfume.
B - O SEU SACRIFÍCIO: TROUXE UM PERFUME MUITO CARO (v.37c)
A costly item. Mark and John both record its cost as 300 denarii (roughly a year’s wages for a laborer; Mark 14:5; John 12:3).
C - O SEU SOFRIMENTO: CHOROU AOS PÉS DO MESTRE O SEU PECADO (v.38a)
C - O SEU SOFRIMENTO: CHOROU AOS PÉS DO MESTRE O SEU PECADO (v.38a)
E - SUA SALVAÇÃO: SEUS PECADOS FORAM PERDOADOS (v.39-50)
The Pharisee’s comment here might indicate that the woman was a prostitute.
The Pharisee charges that Jesus is not a prophet (contrast v. 16) because a true prophet would not allow a sinful woman to touch him.
v.40) Jesus, porém, tomando a palavra, disse-lhe: "Simão, tenho uma coisa a dizer-te". — "Fala, mestre", respondeu ele.
Jesus knows Simon’s thoughts, showing that he is indeed a prophet.
Equivalent to about 20 months’ wages. Fifty denarii is about two months’ wages.
For the analogy of sin with debt, cf. 11:4; Matt. 6:12; 18:21–35.
