Godly legacy does not guarantee godly living
Godly legacy does not guarantee godly living
Godliness is not hereditary. Faith is not always passed down generationally. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel sought to pass down faith to their children.
Samuel was well known.
đź“· Itinerant speaker.
đź“· Empowered prophet.
đź“· Instructor of righteousness.
A. A NOBLE father
Samuel had dedicated to the things of the Lord from his very childhood. Samuel must have loved his sons and wished them to group up in the ways of the Lord because he gave them both names that reflect their godly heritage.
o Joel – “Jehovah is GOD”
o Abiah – “Jehovah is OUR FATHER”
Yet v. 3 says something else…they don’t follow their names.
When we you examine the OT you see three men against whom there is no indictment: Joseph, Daniel, and SAMUEL. Joel and Abiah obviously had a great example to follow in their own father.
B. A pair of REBELLIOUS Sons
Despite the incredible testimony of their dad, Joel and Abiah “walked not in his ways.” Their example demonstrates very clear that the only guarantee you must get passed down from your parents is your SIN NATURE.
