Set the Stage

Good Morning,
Lets give up to the praise band again!! They are so awesome and love hearing them each week. I tell students that I am conspiracy theorist… and its very true. I am skeptic by nature and as a kid I always would go with my mom through the grocery store and I would be drawn to the tabloids. As a kid bored waiting to leave I needed something to occupy my time and so I read and flipped through those pages. Well that was a start to many years of looking at symbols, questioning motives of media and have what seemed to be endless cups of coffee and talking about the world being flat or if certain presidential candidates are actually reptilian. As humorous as tabloids are to some, for others its gospel. For Christians we have the same tabloid.
A story about a man that was perfectly human and perfectly God.
A child conceived by a virgin and the Holy Spirit Who came and lived a sinless life. And then by His choice chose to take all the sins of the world,
notice I did not say sins of that time, but came to take the sins OF ALL THE WORLD.
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

For God so loved the world,i that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
But we believe it, we design our entire lives around. We believe a tabloid that the world says makes us crazy…and yet we call this, truth no we call this Gospel.
We talk about inviting people to Christ, we talk about wanting to help people belief in this thing called the Gospel. And yet we do not understand that to someone whose has never heard it. You might as well be wearing a tin foil hat and asking them to climb aboard the mother ship. But thankfully its not a lie, its not a false concept its an absolute and wonderfully beautiful truth. Lets Pray
First we have to defend the truth of Jesus Christ and His Life, Death and Resurrection here on Earth. Todays scriptures are going to consistently come from the book of 2nd Peter. 2nd Peter is the second Epistle or letter written by Simoen Peter. The first letter was written to encourage Christians to be full of hope and that they will certainly enjoy the end time salvation. Peter the apostle of Christ is nearing his death and wants to make sure that her can give just warning to Christians in the early church. in the second letter He desire Christians to follow the path set by Jesus and to live rightesoully in the face of opposition.
So I Have three concepts that will help us validate that this Jesus was not just a tabloid but truly the savior of the world. First we have Peters first hand experience that Jesus is the Christ. in 2nd peter verse

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

The Transfiguration. Christ was transformed, he accounts that his face was bright and his clothes were blinding white. Elijah and Moses appears. God speaks to Peter and the disciples that were there and says that this is my beloved son. Now we wonder how does this validate Peter. He was an eye witness!! He was cross examined from the day of Pentecost to the moment that he drew his lsat breath and no one goes to their death for a lie!! What Peter saw was a trailer for the movie that is coming. Personal experiences are just that personal so they are subjective and so without the addition of historical accounts we have no truth.

19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The next is the historical account whats been written and read. The connection to that is the apostles of christ to us then the connection of Joy and Peace and Love. Everyone one of these again breath and no one goes to their death for a lie!! The prediction of all these propheseys.
predicts the destruction of the temple 140 years and predicts that Cyrus will destroy it, a 160 years before he is even born. There is no other book based on a religion or a faith or books of gospel that can prove this…the one thing they all lack is prophecy fulfilled.
We can validate what we believe by eye witness accounts and historical data. The sad reality is that we all fal short at one point or another truly bielving this gosepl, this truth.
We do this because Peter was writing this second letter to help confirm what he beleived but to protect those that were being lead by Christless Teachers.
Chapter starts off with this

2 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2

BE REAL WITH THIS!!!
But thankful Peter provides us with solutions that will help us focus on the gospel and not the false teachings.
Wholsome Teaching

9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,

b. Words of the Prohpets

2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles,

9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,

c. Words of Jesus

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

1

9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.

I'm not a warrior I'm too afraid to lose I feel unqualified for what you're calling me to But Lord with your strength I've got no excuse 'Cause broken people are exactly who you use
So give me faith like Daniel in the lion's den Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense So I can face my giants with confidence.
NOW I don’t know about you but that gets me pumping and gets my blood pumping. I mean it should be easy right?!?! David took down Goliath with only a sling and stone. Daniel and his friends were cast into a furnace and then faced a pit of hungry lions. And Moses....well being the author of the first five books of the bible. When we hear these men and women from the bible standing up in faith, its hard to not feel a little unqualified, even the band that sang the lyrics from that song, are making a living by touring and playing and writing music.
