Lesson
Obedience is necessary for victorious lives as Christian.
Jesus places great stress on this expression of our commitment.
John, Jesus’ disciple, says that our obedience to God’s instructions, commandments, display how much we really know Him.
The more we get to know Jesus relationally, through prayer, reading, studying, and fasting, the more He can and will reveal Himself to us by His Spirit in us.
John 14:
As Christians, followers and disciples of Jesus, we must develop a lifestyle of obedience with Jesus’ help in changing us.
This will not happen overnight, but we must give our best effort everyday according to what we know so far.
What Is Meant By Obedience?
Webster’s dictionary defines obedience as the “state or act of being submissive to the will of another.
This first implies that to be obedienct, we must have some external authority as the object of our obedience.
Secondly, true obedience is not only an act, but also an inner attitude of submission.
This means that true obedience is the product of an inward change and determination to be submissive, willingly.
True obedience in the spiritual realm is the action of following God’s will for our lives in all respects out of desire from our hearts, our desires.
True obedience is not serving God on our own terms.
True obedience to God will not e a product of, or result in strict self denial just because someone said so.
Sometimes it may start that way, but revelation through relationship will motivate us to do so from love.
An important characteristic of true obedience is that it comes from our hearts, our own desire as Jesus changes us.
Obedience without desire to be obedient will result in legalism, doing it because we’re told to.
Why Should We Be Obedient?
We want to be properly motivated to be obedient in our everyday lives.
Much of our motivation comes from thankfulness, gratefulness, and our ever growing relationship we develop with Jesus through our spiritual disciplines (praying, reading, fasting), and consistently being present when The Church gathers (service) to experience His Presence collectively as He guides His Bride, The Church.
We should be obedient because God loves us and is worthy of our loves and obedience in return.
It isn’t hard to obey someone whom we love and we know loves us.
2. We should be obedient because it is a practical way to show Jesus our love for Him.
3. We should be obedient because Jesus clearly commands us to be as His Children.

3. We want to develop right attitudes.
Our attitudes toward serving God and being obedient will do much to help us or hinder us in an obedient life.
We have a short list of a few attitudes God says we can develop which will directly influence our development of true obedience.
Delighting to do God’s will(desire).
Jesus desires to help us develop this mindset within us, IF we allow Him
b.
