INTRODUCTION:
INTRODUCTION:
1. The Old Testament is there for our learning.
4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
A. There are many things that can be learned from the Psalms.
1. As a part of the Old Testament, the Psalms were meant to lead us to Christ.
24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
B. The things that happened to the Psalmist and that they recorded are there for our example of how to live.
11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
1 Cor 10.
Body:
1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
Ps
1. “Hear me when I call” should be our cry to God as well.
21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
A. How do we call on God so that he hears us?
16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
1. There are times when one calls upon God but is not heard.
31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
A. This is a concept that is consistent throughout the Old Testament.
41 They cried out, but there was none to save; Even to the Lord, but He did not answer them.
28 “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.
11 Therefore thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will surely bring calamity on them which they will not be able to escape; and though they cry out to Me, I will not listen to them.
18 Therefore I also will act in fury. My eye will not spare nor will I have pity; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”
13 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,” says the Lord of hosts.
4 Then they will cry to the Lord, But He will not hear them; He will even hide His face from them at that time, Because they have been evil in their deeds.

2. David cried for deliverance and was delivered.
1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
Ps
A. When does God hear us and deliver us?
21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’
1. The recipients of this great gospel sermon responded to Peter’s preaching.
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
A. Peter replied
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
B. David had an enemy, his son Absalom, who was winning at this time that he needed deliverance from.
14 So David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee, or we shall not escape from Absalom. Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring disaster upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”
2 Sam. 15:
1. We have an enemy that seems to be winning the battle.
1 Pt 5.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
A. We also need deliverance.
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
1. David recieved his deliverance from Absalom.
2 Sam
9 Then Absalom met the servants of David. Absalom rode on a mule. The mule went under the thick boughs of a great terebinth tree, and his head caught in the terebinth; so he was left hanging between heaven and earth. And the mule which was under him went on.
14 Then Joab said, “I cannot linger with you.” And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom’s heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree. 15 And ten young men who bore Joab’s armor surrounded Absalom, and struck and killed him.
2 Sam. 18.
19 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Let me run now and take the news to the king, how the Lord has avenged him of his enemies.”
2. We receive our deliverance of being a slave of sin (Satan) when we obey from the heart that form of doctrine.
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
A. This obedience to a form of doctrine sets us free from sin.
18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
B. What doctrine sets one free of sin.
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.
C. Ananias told Paul that baptism washes away sin and calls on the name of the Lord.
16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
CONCLUSION:
1. What have we learned from ?
A. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved the same as David.
1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
2. Have you called on the name of the Lord
A. If you have he will hear you and deliver you
