Introduction:
Illustration- Lazy
I heard about a man whose family sent him to the doctor because he constantly complained of being too sick to work.
The doctor examined his patient, then told him to get dressed and meet him in his office.
When the man came into the office and sat down, he said, “Give it to me straight, doc.
Don’t use any complicated, fancy sounding medical terms.
My family wants the truth in plain English.
What’s wrong with me?
“All right,” the doctor said.
“I’ll make it as plain as I can.
There isn’t a thing wrong with you.
You’re just lazy.”
The man sat silent for a moment, then said, “I see.
Now will you give me a complicated, fancy sounding medical term I can tell my family?”
Many people are just plain lazy, that’s the truth...
Consider this where work and discipline are concerned...
Why is it that we remember with difficulty,
and without difficulty we forget?
Why is it that we learn with difficulty,
and without difficulty we remain ignorant?
Why is it that we are diligent with difficulty,
and without difficulty are indolent: meaning - lazy; idle; lethargic; sluggish; slothful?
Does this not show what our first nature inclines to be and tends to be by its own weight,
Does this not show what help our first nature needs if it is to be delivered?
Inactivity, slothfulness, laziness, negligence, all are vices which shun labor.
Labor/ work is useful, is itself a discipline required by our born again nature in order to be saved.
It has required work by God and work by the sinner.
We have entered into a period of good works.
Works that can support our born again nature.
An exercise of proclaiming the Good News that saves mankind.
An exercise we have labeled “The Eternity Workshops”.
[We must Not Grow Weary in Doing Good.]

I. Do Not Lose Heart
Don’t lose heart because of suffering; because of age; because of disgrace, difference or difficulty...
Do not lose heart...
A. because of suffering
surely if we are going to proclaim the good news of Jesus the Christ there is going to be some suffering and persecution experienced...
Do not lose heart...
B. because of age
by the activity of spiritual things the inner man is renewed and strengthened for eternity...
Do not lose heart...
C. because of disgrace; difference; or difficulty
We commend ourselves to work and not be lazy.
We commend ourselves to study and not to fables.
We commend ourselves to Book; Chapter and verse and not philosophy.
We commend ourselves to truth and not social convenience.
We commend ourselves to reality and not self-serving-fantasy.
[That means we cannot give up on doing good works…the works of Him who sends us…]
II.
Do not Walk in Idleness
Let me say a quick work to our younger generation.
The great majority of what you see that is enjoyable and desirable which you want for yourselves, was achieved through hard work.
Nice home; nice car; nice clothes
Money in the bank; Exotic Vacations; Good paying careers
The surest way for you to avoid these things is to live life the easy way out.
Try always doing the least or minimum that is required of you and you will receive the least and minimum that life has to offer.
The Bible has much to say about the sluggard; the slothful; the lazy; etc.
The Apostles were workers, not lazy and diligent about their mission and example...
Jesus tells a parable about idle folk standing around...
In order to get paid they had to go work in the vineyard and God be praised because He paid them what was agreed even though some of the workers had a problem with that.
[To overcome our first nature we are going to need much patience and encouragement…]
III.
Patience and Encouragement
The book Hebrews has some great examples of Patience and encouragement
To be a successful Christian or to be a successful church we are going to need encouragement and help from everyone involved.
If we can achieve a unity of purpose in work for the Lord, great things can occur many think are not possible.
Conclusion:
As Christians we must show patience and be encouraging that we do not grow weary in well doing.
Do Not Lose Heart
Do Not Walk in Idleness
Be Patient and Be Encouraging
When that happens we will be that light set up on a hill proclaim the message of salvation that saves man soul...
