I Am / Light; Evangelism; Transformation / Matthew 5:13–16; 1 Peter 2:9–10
We are continuing our study of being the light of the world. Christ came as the light of the
world. In Christ, Christians have been transformed by Christ's blood and word into children of
light in the kingdom of light. If we are children of light, then we must proclaim the Gospel to the
world!
Introduction
Our Savior is the source of light and in Him we are transformed to be the light of
the world.
As those of light, we imitate God (Ephesians 5:1-2) and live so as to bring
righteousness, goodness, and truth (Ephesians 5:8-9).
But is not meant to just be lived—If we are the light of the world, then we have to
speak forth the truth of the Gospel.
The Light of the Gospel Perceived
The devil is working to prevent the light from shining. 2 Corinthians 4:1-4 — Paul
was presenting the Gospel but Satan was working to hide it.
Jesus has brought life and light to us through the Gospel (2 Timothy 1:8-12). We
were in darkness but God has changed us. Do not be ashamed of the Gospel. Trust
God and walk in the light.
The Light of Truth Proclaimed
The truth draws to the light (John 3:8-21).

Speak truth to those in sin (Ephesians 5:8-14).
Speak the truth of what God has done (1 Peter 2:9-10).
Conclusion
A child of light cannot say no to the preaching of the Gospel.
Each of us need to be the light, speaking truth, in those places where we have the
opportunity to so do. I might be the only one at work, on the sports team, in the
college class, etc. who is living for Christ and can speak forth the word of Christ.
