Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
“Therefore”
“Therefore”
Truth about Christ requires a response.
The ball is in our court.
How you respond to what you have heard speak for what you believe.
The first verse, “… we must pay closer attention to what we’ve heard …”
this is not talking about understanding deeply but seems to be talking about how we should continually observe and be attentive to what we heard.
“closer attention” as in closer than we have been?
It is comparing the attention we pay to other things, especially other messages.
“Lest we drift away from it…”
You don’t need to seek out evil to fall away.
Failure to pay close attention or to go on as if nothing happened.
This “normal life” could potentially lead you to drift away from the message of salvation that you heard.
If the Devil can’t make you sin He will make you busy
He will make you busy
“…How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?”
Mosaic Law (we understand) was a way of life.
Total…absolute...
Do we feel our relationship is allowed to be less commited.
Mosaic Law was about acceptance by actions…(works)
If our acceptance is based on faith..
does that mean we don’t need to be as commited?
We have a greater promise and deserve a greater response.
