Introduction:
The book of Leviticus means “pertaining to the Levites.”
The book of Leviticus means “pertaining to the Levites.”
3rd book of the Pentateuch which means the “first five books” or in this case five scrolls.
I don’t get upset when someone uses their phone as a Bible, but the distractions that comes from everything else on the phone is the problem.
are you strong enough to resist the interruptions? I am not. Don’t get distracted.
The Author of the book of Leviticus is the same as the Torah or Pentateuch which is Moses.
Don’t be intimidated by liberal scholars. JEDP different group of people that supposedly wrote the first five books.
Jesus in gave testimony to Moses writing the first five books.
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Jesus is the strongest testimony for Moses as the author.
The book of Exodus and Leviticus are books of instruction of how to worship in the wilderness.
The Tabernacle was the main mobile place of worship.
The Tabernacle was centrally located in the center of Israel’s Encampment.
The Priest would receive all the offerings.
The first three offerings were voluntary and the last two were involuntary.
This is the second of five offerings mentioned. The first was the burnt offering.
The Burnt offering was voluntary not forced.
The Burnt offering was an act of dedication.
The Burnt offering was not shared but wholly consumed by fire.
It was not limited by money or size.
The offering was living and killed for the payment of sin … atonement.
Key Phrases in Leviticus One:
“and the Lord called” showing his sovereignty in communicating with Israel through Moses.
“sweet savour unto the Lord.” three times in 9,13,17. God was well pleased by this offering.
in Fee and Stuart’s book … How to Read the Bible Book by Book. The sacrifices share 3 lessons that teach us about the covenant relationship Israel has with God.
1. The offering is a gift from the Israelite to the covenant keeping God.
2. The offering reveals the desire for fellowship between the worshipper and God.
3. The offering acts as a mending of the torn relationship between the worshipper and God through atonement.
Let’s take a look at the second of the three voluntary offerings:
I. Reason for the Meat Offering.
I. Reason for the Meat Offering.
Definition: One commentator said “The fundamental idea of the meal-offering to be this: It was a gift brugth by the worshipper to God, in token of his recognition of His supreme authority, and as an expression of desire for His favor and blessing.”
Desire: for favor or blessing.
The meal offering was consumed by fire as the burn offering was.
The meal offering did not deal with a living sacrifice but a dead one. There was not death to sin in this act of worship. No laying on of hands but the offerer on the offering.
There is no picture of expiation or recompence for sin.
The gift is given in a most basic prepared form.
The part of the gift given was a recognition of the what God had blessed the individual with.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

A. The Focus- There is no shedding of blood for this offering.
1.This offering focuses on the life of Christ instead of the death.
2. The balanced life of Christ being fully man and fully God.
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
3. The olive oil represents the Holy Spirit. The oil mixed with the offering reminds us that the Son of God was born of the Spirit of God with a perfect nature. The oil poured on the offering reminds us of the enablement by the Spirit of God.
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Acts 10:38
We also as we live before God serving His fields need His Spirit for fruit production and for power. .
The Leaven is always a picture of sin and should not be mixed in the offering or our lives. :6-8
The Honey is a type of man’s glory and should not be mixed in the offering.
He does want salt which is a picture of purity
He does want frankincense which is a symbol of praise.
Our lives like this offering should bring honor and glory to Christ.
