Judgment on Israel
Judgment on Israel
“I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the peace offerings of your fattened animals, I will not look upon them.
Take away from me the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen.
But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
The Lord God has sworn by himself, declares the Lord, the God of hosts: “I abhor the pride of Jacob and hate his strongholds, and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.”

This is what he showed me: behold, the Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel; I will never again pass by them;
Note in all these statements, although He may use means, God Himself takes the credit or responsibility for this judgment. Sin against God brings about judgment FROM God
The vision in begins with a beautiful and appetizing picture; summer fruit
After Jonah, Nahum prophesied against Nineveh and Obadiah prophesied against Edom. No one was prophesying for or against Israel, because there WAS NO Israel.
After Judah fell, there were 400 years of silence. While we do not look for further inspiration of new revelation, we desire and need a prophetic witness and voice in our own day

The pride of Jacob has become the pride of the American Christians, the pride of the Evangelicals, the pride of the Baptists, the pride of the Missionary Baptists
Might it be the case that the reason so many churches don’t have a solid preaching and teaching ministry anymore is because so many are already under judgment?

What known sins have we or are we tolerating and thereby perpetuating and endorsing by our silence and inaction?
Our Hope
Our Hope
“In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old,
that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name,” declares the Lord who does this.
amos 9:11
I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine, and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,” says the Lord your God.
The foundation in Christ is just as certain as the impending judgment of God.
We have not yet entered a famine of the word here; let this message stand as proof of that as much as warning of it
Application
Application
Awaken the House of God to our own sins
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Remind us who is in control
And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it,
and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.
And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Stoke the fires of faith and embolden us to evangelize
For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
May God move upon us as His people to be sobered concerning God’s righteous judgment, to be repentant of our own sins, to be rightly humbled under the Lordship of Jesus, and be reminded the urgency to witness to the lost and dying.
From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!
