I reviewed the material and agree with Tebow—each day has to lived as if it is the last. Everyone has a purpose; and there is no good reason to delay in pursuing God’s purpose for our lives.
I admit, I have a problem doing book reviews. The book is good and has great motivation, but I prefer to focus on the Scriptural emphasis.
Let’s spend some time looking into the core scripture Tebow uses and see what God says to us through His Word.
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. 4 In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
Heb 12:1-4
We are surrounded—by a great cloud of witnesses:
We are surrounded—by a great cloud of witnesses:
The emphasis comes from a reminder of those who are part of the cloud from Chapter 11:
a numberless multitude above us, like a cloud
To understand Chapter 12, we have to go back to 11 and define faith:
1 Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being certain of what we do not see.
heb 11:
Faith is a Title Deed—the evidence/proof of ownership. i.e. house or an automobile.
Since faith is no blind—I can see a Title Deed and I can see the works of God in Creation, Conscience, and Christ that bear witness of truth.
The definition of faith is followed by a list of people who succeeded in living their purpose, even when life seemed to make no sense. (Review the list)
Now review as a whole:
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Notice the emphasis in the text
vs1a: The cloud of witnesses has been where we are! And they cheer us on!
vs1b: Throw off everything that stands in the way
vs1c: Throw off the sin that holds on to us so tightly (Lit. Sin clings to us and must be repeatedly peeled off!) Translation “which always so clings to us and trips us up!”
The language implies a caution to be careful not to be deceived by gradual seduction!
vs1d: Let us run the race God has set before us!
Emphasis is twofold:
1. be patient and disciplined (c.p. )
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
Emphasis is twofold:
2. run YOUR race!
vs2-3 tell us how to run:
v2: Stay focused on Jesus and follow His example: Jesus kept His eye on the finish line, not on the crowd or the things that tried to draw Him way.
v3: Remember people were hostile to Jesus when He did nothing wrong—how can we expect anything different. Especially since WE DO WRONG and often deserve the hostility of others!
Encourage you to study on: vs 4-17 tell us not to grow weary and reminds us of our relationship to God and how He disciplines His children.
Next week is the last of the series. is the emphasis, but study the 3rd Chapter as well. Paul reveals a secret in Chapter 3 that was once hidden.

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
