Jesus Baptism
Tonight I want to talk about Baptism and Jesus.
Can you any of you tell us why we Baptized?
Let’s talk about Jesus Baptism.
Matthew 3:12-
Now there was a man by the name of John the baptist as they called him that was walking around the wilderness around Judea.
He was wearing Camel-Hair Garment with a leather belt around his waist and his food was locust and wild honey.
Now locust just a FYI is like a grasshopper like a big grasshopper.
But he was walking around yelling out.
Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.
Now think about that.
we would call this person crazy most likely in todays world.
But he was fulfilling what the prophet Isaiah said would happen before Jesus came on the seen in the old testament.
Matthew 3:
Believe it or not a lot of people from Jerusalem, Judea and all over the area were coming out to see him.
Many of them were baptized by him in the Jordan river, and confessing their sins.
They were admitting where they screwed up in there walk with God.
and then comes Jesus.
Its because
Now John is trying to stop Jesus here.
Basically he is struggling with the idea of baptising Jesus.
I mean Jesus is perfect.
he doesn’t need to be cleansed or confess his sins.
But I think that is something we get wrong, so often we look at the act of baptism as the thing that saves us.
Instead of what it is intended to be.
See Jesus was doing this to to please God.
Because a prophet had called for this.
See later in Matthew Chapter 11, we see John the baptist being called the greatest of the prophets.
So Jesus was just doing what was being commanded of him.
in verse 15 it says.
So Jesus was just doing what was being commanded of him.
Just like we are called to!
We are called to live a life like Jesus.
So we should emulated him right?
It says in
Matthew 28:
