Discussion:
What is the primary purpose of ?
is the beginning of this universe. But there is already a cosmic war going on. John 8L44 – the devils is a murderer and a liar before this universe was created. Is “that good” everything, this planet, the garden. We are created in a war zone. Created with a purpose () Humans are blessable covenant partners () with YHWH, whose mission is to create more image bearing, blessable covenant partners who will form communities of justice generosity, beauty, faithfulness, etc. through the rest of the area. When God gives this commission it is an act of war.
The “land” is uncultivated and uninhabited. The “Earth” “the Land” is not the planet. The heavens (everything out there – not on the land)
YEC (young earth creation) = days are days of creation of the universe
Biologos (Evolution/Creation)– days of the Sabbath cycle used as a literary framework to teach theology of creation. 6 sequential literal days
Historic Creation (Salheimer) – days are when YHWh shapes our Eden (Israel) for human habitation for Him to dwell and work with His people to fight the Serpent by doing good.
The focus of genesis is Why he created it: To worship him and when (this is why the 7 days) Forget the science creation debate – Lets look at His purpose – To worship him and when to.
Tree of knowing good / bad, (wisdom) – who will define good, right, true, beautiful, real.
God’s interpretation of tree – dangerous tree, don’t eat, it will kill you
· This is a test – obey = get life, disobey and get death
God: Satan:
· Dangerous tree Good tree
· Don’t Eat Eat it
· It will kill you Make you like YHWH
Serpent agenda:
· Don’t trust anyone
· Isolate from God and community
· Trust yourself / not God
God’s Agenda:
· He comes and seeks them out
· God Calls them
· Where are you? Inviting confession / repentance – “I did it was wrong”
Adam and Eve:
· They hide = Death they hide
· Shame / Guilt /
· Adams response:
o “I heard you in the garden (Context)
o I was afraid – (Emotion)
o Because I was naked (Identity)
o So I hid (Action)
· God goes for Identity Statement – “who told you that you were naked?”
· God invites confession – “Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”
· Adam – Blames God and Woman
· Eve – Confesses – “The serpent deceived me and I ate.”
God said to the Serpent: God deals with him – acknowledge the truth
· Cursed is serpent and ground
Adam and eve – are punished – not cursed
· Pain of childbirth and childrearing
–
· I will put enmity between you and the woman,
· And between your offspring (Little snakes, serpent and those who worship him) and her offspring (Messiah and those who worship him) he (Messiah) shall bruise your (Serpent) head (kill him) [Triumph] and you (serpent) shall bruise his (Messiah) heel.” Kill him [Substitution]
– Sin pattern
· Saw – Took – Chose
· Who are the sons of God?
o Angelicl being transgressing a major boundary, humans going for life on their own
o Of Seth / Enoch – daughter are Cain
o Normal human beings – guys and gals = babies
§ – (which is )
–
· Mans desire –
o Let us build ourselves a city and tower with its top to the heavens
o Let us make a name for ourselves – unless we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth (we have to fill the earth and subdue it like God said)
God will – disperse them
Abarahamic Righteousness
· “Khesed” – loyalty – first mentioned here - Abraham goes to a Canann and built and altar to YHWH in Ba’al land where it might get you killed. This is like building a church in Mecca.
· God’s Covenant with Abram
· Abraham reminding God of his promise
o Respectfully
Directly
6 “And he believed [trust - aman ] the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” The righteousness is located in Abrams trust. Trusting YHWH word even when it makes no sense.
6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness
- 3 men visit Abraham
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
“For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep [Shamar - obey] the way of the LORD by doing righteousness [tsedekah] and justice [misphat] so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.” ;
- be righteous like God is. Not see and Take - But see and Care
3 metaphores of calvary
Isaac - ;
Passover
Day of Atonement
Tim keller teaches this - in correctly - Father pours out His wrath on the Son - This misses the agony of the Father and misses the wrath of the Son () - the wrath of the lamb and their wrath.
The Father and the Son partner together, both agonizing, to perform the substitutionary sacrifice to appease the wrath of Father and the Son.
: - Abraham obeyd
Mosaic Covenant:
Loyalty
Trust
Obey
Look for the provision of Messiah
Abrahmic Righteousness is:
Love God - Trust and obey
Love Neighbor -

Genesis 16:
Hagar is Sex Trafficed. She is badly treated and thrown away Sarai throws her out, Abraham does not protect. She is lost. The Angel pursues her, and asks for confession. This is Eve/Adam
Sin - By us, to us, in our presence
Hagar names God - which is a name of recognition
- Why is it so critical?
v.2 - God says i have not revealed myself to them - So the implication is that until you go through being delivered - you can’t know the “I am” - until the Exodus.
Discussion

Revelation of YHWH
How shall we understand the seven “I will” statements?
How do the three parts relate to each other?
How do they define the true knowledge of YHWH?
The key question of the Book of Exodus: Who is this God named YHWH?
The only way to truly understand who YHWH is - is by experiencing his redemption story. You can’t separate the revelation of the character of God and the story of redemption - for when you reveal redemption you see and know the character of God.
we feel the heart of yhwh as he speaks his intention and responds to the groaning of his people and responds to deliver them and reveal himself to his people and to the world
His ultimate purpose and plan is to redeem and care for his people to give them a possession and place to have relationship with the creator of the universe
His goal is to be in special relation with the people, yhwh your god. It is redemption and relationship , deliverance for a reason: relationship. i will take is the language of marriage. How is Israel referred to - bride of yhwh. This brings it.
