While other epistles make mention of apostacy along with other elements, Jude was written to combat false teachers and their apostocy exclusively. There are three parts to the book of Jude 1. the discription of believers, 2. The warning againt apostacy, 3. The exhortation to believers. Now the first thing we are going to look at are 1. what does a true pastor look like and 2. what does a true beleiver look like

Description of a true Pastor or Minister
Description of a true Pastor or Minister
The first thing that Jude does is to humble himself by claiming association to others that are more important. He exhaults
Christ by claiming to be a bondservant
this is the same thing his brother James did in
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
The New King James Version Chapter 12
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
Exhaults James by claiming him as his brother
he was gaining notoriety not by exhaulting self but by being humble and giving praise to others for who they are.
in his proclamation, his claim to fame was being a slave and a brother to someone named.
A true minister of God has two very basic traits
the trait of being a servant and a slave
A true ministers life is not about his own desires but that of serving the master
A true minister will have a trait of humility
A true minister will walk humbly and not proud
in that humility comes the obedience to be studied in Gods word to present it, to teach it to God’s people
-Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
diligent is to love earnestly
The Description of a true Believer
The Description of a true Believer
Called, Sanctified, Preserved
This epistle was not directed at a particular and therefore was a general epistle to all those of a common salvation
The called means
those that have responded to the call of the Gospel
-among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ; To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
God calls man to accept the Gospel
God convicts man to accept the Gospel
it is up to man to respond to that call
A true believer is one who has responded to and accepted this call
A true believer is one who has been called to be a saint and to live a life of holiness
the holy characteristics will be displayed daily in the lives of the saints
-Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
A true believer is one who has been called to serve Jesus
A true believer is Sanctified
this means to be set aside
-I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
A true believer is preserved
It is the common salvation that is offered through the blood of Christ that preserves the true believer
A true believer is
watched over by God
Guided and directed by God
Strengthened by God to make it through trials and tribulations
is escorted by God into heaven
a true believer is kept by God
