Cycles of Sin
Psalm 106:34
Overwhelming Odds
Again we see the the cycle of sin and this time The Israelites are up against an overwhelming odds.
In order to get a proper perspective we need to look at both chapter 4 and 5.
:1-
Har-osh-eth Ha-o-yim
The Canaanites had 900 chariots of iron.
These were like the tanks.
Often times the chariots had iron spikes out of the wheels and would totally destroy ground troops.
The Israelite nation did not have a standing army.
What solders they could muster up were foot solders.
Chariots would have destroyed them in battle.
The Cann
Jabin was the king and Sisera was the commander of the army.
Life in the region had gotten so severe.
We find in Chapter 5
Judges 5:6-9
The villagers ceased to be able to use the natural roads and were stuck to using the byways and travel around which took longer.
What man sees as impossible God see as possible!
Judges 4:4
1. God has spoken
2. Our faithfulness determines our victory
The problem is that we focus what we see not what God sees.
Barak did not have faith in the unseen but was limited to only what he could see.
14-
Sometimes it is not about what we do it is about what we don't do
Side Note
8 Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” 9 And she said, “I will surely go with you.
Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the Lord will ksell Sisera into the hand of a woman.”
Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 And Barak called out lZebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh.
And 10,000 men went up at his heels, and Deborah went up with him.
Judges 4:11-
Back to the Action
When the People offer themselves to God and leaders lead, the Lord is Blessed - the mountains quake and the earth tremble
Judges 4:12-
Something is going to happen.
God is full-filling his plan
and the land had peace for 40 years
3. God provides a way
God is Sovereign in Keeping His Promises
:17-
Judges 5:24-31
and the land had peace for 40 years
Conclusion
When we face overwhelming odds
2 “When the princes in Israel take the lead,
when the people willingly offer themselves—
praise the LORD!
3 “Hear this, you kings!
Listen, you rulers!
I will sing to the LORD, I will sing;
I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel.
Abandon Everything for the battle
Exercise Faith
Raise up and do the hard thing
Praise Him when he delivers
