Moral = Most who claim to be Christian are not, when it comes down to it.
David and Julie were far from christ. Door shut.
To be Christian, is to follow Christ and place him not only as father, but also as master and Lord.
The predominant God for the Christian west might be: leisure time, work, money, i.e. secularism. It is pervasive, even in the Adventist church.
Do you think most Christians spend more time with Jesus than anyone or anything else in a given day? Is Jesus the center of most Christian’s affections?
Please don’t misunderstand the question. Christianity is not monasticism or isolation from the world.
Real Christians, from God’s point of view are to be light and salt.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how will it become salty again? It’s good for nothing except to be thrown away and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city on top of a hill can’t be hidden.
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how will it become salty again? It’s good for nothing except to be thrown away and trampled under people’s feet. 14 You are the light of the world. A city on top of a hill can’t be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on top of a lampstand, and it shines on all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven.
Where are we in relation to the supremacy and fullness of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
In other words, is the Spirit in our lives?
Is the Holy Spirit in our lives?
Is the Holy Spirit in our lives?
The Bible is clear that there are conditions and hinderances to the Spirit’s abiding in our lives.
Do you want your lives to be everything you and god want it to be? Then take this in seriously.
Conditions for the Endowment
Conditions for the Endowment
We will narrow down to three conditions to receiving the Spirit.

Today we will start with...
Repentance
Repentance
Let’s look at our passage. Thanks Andrea and Aubrey
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
The New King James Version Chapter 2
“Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
acts
“...Men and brethren, what shall we do?” NKJV
The New King James Version, (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), .
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Repent?
When the crowd heard this, they were deeply troubled. They said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
Peter replied, “Change your hearts and lives. Each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This is condition number one. For without it, the other conditions make no difference.
Let’s look at repentance. The Bible’s use of this word implies...
to reconsider (repent) v. — to have a change of self (heart and mind) that abandons former dispositions and results in a new self, new behavior, and regret over former behavior and dispositions.
In the spiritual context this means a radical change in heart and mind in the moral context from a person of sin to a person of God.
to reconsider (repent) v. — to have a change of self (heart and mind) that abandons former dispositions and results in a new self, new behavior, and regret over former behavior and dispositions.
metanoeō
That’s why CEB translators chose to add enough English words to define the word repent, which is trying to share the meaning of the Greek word metanoeō.
Peter replied, “Change your hearts and lives. Each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
A change of heart and life. Not just a belief only. There is a change in the life.
More than simply reciting the lord’s prayer. More than lip service. memorizing and being able to quote scripture. to know all the prophecies, understand the meaning of the sanctuary service...
It’s a complete transformation of who we are. A complete makeover.
The kindness of God leads to repentance.
The kindness of God leads to repentance.
Or do you have contempt for the riches of God’s generosity, tolerance, and patience? Don’t you realize that God’s kindness is supposed to lead you to change your heart and life?
As we are changed, converted…we are led to trust.

A burden to share
Persistent intercession
Obedience
He redeemed us so that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, and that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Persistent intercession
Belief and trust are sometimes differentiated.
Honor the body temple
Trust is seen as moving forward based on conviction.
A desire for Christ to abide in the heart
While belief is intellectual assent.
We believe something to be so. But not until we act on our belief are we showing faith or trust.
story of belief and trust. Like trusting the such and such to be so...
In the Bible faith is always trust and not mere intellectual assent.
So often we look for signs and wonders of God’s presence. Yet the Bible simply says to trust to have faith that it is so.
As you meet the conditions of the endowment of the Spirit, simply claim the promise. Claim it to be so. The fruit of the spirit will be evident and the gifts of the spirit.
Trust/faith leads to...
Obedience
Obedience
As we love Jesus for salvation, we will be obedient. Not perfect. Obedient. The opposite of rebellious.
From the heart.
Jesus answered, “Whoever loves me will keep my word. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
This is an obedience from the heart to please God. Not to earn salvation. Jesus already paid the price. He earned it for us.
Our salvation is assured through Christ’s merits. And we love him for that and desire to please him through obedience.
which then leads to...
A Burden to Share
A Burden to Share
If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
The background of this passage.
The disciples fund Jesus praying.
It was surely and amazing prayer. Can you imagine. So they asked him to teach them.
Jesus repeats portions of the Lord’s prayer.
Then he tells them a parable about a persistent friend.
He also said to them, “Imagine that one of you has a friend and you go to that friend in the middle of the night. Imagine saying, ‘Friend, loan me three loaves of bread because a friend of mine on a journey has arrived and I have nothing to set before him.’
Imagine further that he answers from within the house, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up to give you anything.’
Homes in those days. first level, one entrance, one window. Safety first. animals, cooking,
Second level, multi-generations slept in the same room on one mat.
Bolting the door was not easy. Heavy bar laid through rings across the door.
Getting up to open the door while everyone was asleep, would mean disturbing the sleeping, above on the mat, and the animals below. Creaking clanking, squeaking.
I assure you, even if he wouldn’t get up and help because of his friendship, he will get up and give his friend whatever he needs because of his friend’s brashness.
He wouldn’t normally get up simply for a friend’s request.Brashness, gall, shamefulness of this request. Where hospitality was sacred. Yet it shouldn’t be missed. This request was for bread for guests. Not for himself.
there was a urgent, serious purpose.
Jesus connects this story, the moral of the story,
And I tell you: Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.
It’s not the whole wheat, ancient grain, sprouted grain, gluten free, low glycemic, bread…it’s the bread of life.
If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
The Holy Spirit will come to all who are begging for the bread of life to give to their neighbors.
Burden to share with David and Julie. Repeated attempts. Until finally...Door opened. Studies. Wican, witch craft. They saw the light. They were touched by the kindness of God.
A burden to share. As we repent, have faith in the spirit entering our lives, leading to obedience, we gain a desire to share. a burden to share.
Today’s foot washing and communion service reminds us of these conditions to receiving the spirit.
They focus our minds on salvation through Jesus, the servant leader who washed us clean.
We are cut to the heart and converted,
repentant for something we don’t deserve.
We believe we are saved.
We then act on it by pleasing him through obedience, as we then gain a burden to share Jesus the gospel with others.
Let us practice this today…by inviting the Spirit in to stay.
