Immiscible

John 15:18–16:4 ESV
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’ “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. “I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.

7 Immiscible Combinations

Heaven and Earth- Two Kingdoms (18)

World (Kosmos) and Heavenly (Father)
These worlds are divided- only bridge is Jesus.

Hate and Love (18-19)

God loves the world
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
God chose us “out of the world”
The world hates God.
Those in darkness hate the light.
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
John 3:19 ESV
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

Servant and Master (20)

Why are Christians persecuted? We are not greater than our Master.
We are his servants- surrendered to him- willing slaves.

Guilt and Innocence (15:21-24)

“not guilty of sin”= specifically the sin of rejecting Jesus that is demonstrated in their hate of God.
We are guilty because of general revelation
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
Romans 1:18–20 ESV
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Truth and Lie (15:25)

Hated without cause= false witness.

Spirit and Flesh (15:26-27)

Soap- one side of the molecule sticks to water and other side sticks to oil, causing them to be able to be mixed.
Blood of Jesus purifies us so we are holy and can permanently receive the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit bears witness= bridges the gap between heaven and earth.
Brings conviction to the lost.
Brings power to the saved.
We live in the world- but not of the world.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
1 John 2:15–16 ESV
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
John 17:14–16 ESV
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

Acceptance and Rejection (16:1-4)

When we are rejected by man because of our faith, we are secure through Jesus.
When we are accepted by man we will be rejected by god.
We cannot find a place where we are accepted by the world and accepted by God.
These two world do not mix.
We must chose who we will serve.
Who will you surrender to?
CONCLUSION
Is Jesus something you are mixing with everything else in your life or is Jesus something that has replaced everything else in your life.

Are you trying to mix Jesus and the world?
