8-18-19 2 Samuel 11-12 When the Heart for God Isn't
2 Samuel 11-12 “When the Heart for God Isn’t”
Giving in to Sin
Sin begins with a failure to be actively doing what we should.
Sin happens when we entertain thoughts from our temptations and try to hide.
There will always be opportunities to sin.
David’s descent into sin serves as a strong warning to all of us.
Consequences
Sin will lead to more sin.
Sin will make you blind to what it is doing in your life (12:5-6).
Sin always displeases the Lord (11:27).
Sin affects your future (12:11-14).
Forgiveness
David shows a repentance here that Saul did not.
David seeks a relationship restoration based on the character of God
(Psalm 51:1).
David understands that even with his consequences, there is still useful service ahead (Psalm 51:13).
Failure to understand your hope when you’ve sinned leads to despair and/or more sin.
