8-25-19 2 Samuel 13-14
2 Samuel 13-14
Need for True Justice
There needs to be a clear standard because of how sinful we are (vs1-2).
People show a tremendous ability to carry out evil (vs3-4).
Amnon carried out a wicked plan, hurting others for selfish pleasure (vs12-18).
Our reaction to this story is that this was wrong, and something should be done.
When Nothing Happens
There is no sense of justice driving the responses to what Amnon did (vs20-22).
The inaction leaves Tamar in shame and desolation (vs20).
The inaction leaves the door open for Absalom’s murderous revenge (vs28-29).
The lack of justice gives Tamar no hope and tells Amnon he got away with it.
Longing for Perfect Justice
This story leaves us unsettled and it should.
The perfect justice we long for is found only in Jesus.
To those wronged, Jesus gives healing and a reminder that those who wronged you will be judged.
To those who wronged others, Jesus reminds you of your judgment and he is your hope of forgiveness.
