Lets start the service by playing a liitle prechool game: A Game called: Which things do not belong.
PIC
Its a fun gamr and its really easy.
Lets play a different version:
WORD PIC
This game works becasuse of somthing called ASSOCIATION and DESIGNATION.
You see something and you deside what it is ASSOCIATED witrh, you then, based on that observation DESIGNATE it to a group.
or You see a group and you ASSICIATE certan thiongs to that group.
For example:
What if there is only 2? Which one id odd? You dont know, but what if i first make a DESIGNATION:
Toy SHOP - 2 = the Toy!
Right so now that we have all passed grade 1, what does thins have to do with you and the kingdom of God?
Well in our passage today, Jesus played this game of ASSICIUATION.
12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.
Lets stop there. Jesus went to the temple.
So lests play a little game:
Little Jonny went to Jersualem. In Jerusalm Littlke Jonny went to the Temple.
At the Temple little Jonny saw.....
What would Little Jonny see at a temple? This is the game of ASSIOCIATION.
If jonny went to the aquerium would he expebnt to see an elephant? A Lion? nO a shark or a dolphine or fish.
ok, So if Jonny went to the Temple what would he expect to see at a Temple? What is ASSOCIATED with a temple?
Worship, praise, offerings, sacrifices, repentance, prayers...
Ok, Soi lets see, Jesus goes to the temple, where we would expect to find holy things, and what does Jesus find?
14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.
The game is broken, this is the last thing you expect to find ina tmple - shops of people making money off worshippers. The money changers shount not be there.
Jesus knows what to expect in a tmple, aftr all it is His Fathers House, so when he sees this he is furious.
15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables.
16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”
13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
I want you to notice the sheer vericity iof Jesus in this passage.
He does ask them nicely to stop. He does not threaten them. He does not even give them verbal warning. He mkes a whip and drives them out the temple by force!!!
This is not a pasafitic reaction, this is a violent reaction.
12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
He even overturned the tables, just threw them over!
Why? Because those things DO NOT beling in the temple. Their presence in the temple Dishonerd the one whos temple it is.
Jesus is ngry because he calles trhe Temple “My House”. Its not their house its HIS house.
So Jesus violently and forcfull removes everything that does not belong there, everything that should not be ASSOCIATED with the word Temple.
Amen! All with me? Who disagrees?ok.
Lets get Personal.
Lets get Personal.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Right, now it gets intresting and the churh gets quite.
Let us once again play the game of assocition.
You are many things: Christian, Church - What would you expect to find?
Well the bible tells us, a christian here is a list of thinmgs we would expect to find:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Thats what we would expectr to find, what we would not expect to find is:
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
My friends, you know, I know - something is wrong in the Temple.
And its time Jesus remade that whip.
You are christains! So you should live like it!
10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
The probel is there is no more fear of God, So Jesus made a whip and made them afraid again.
Today is the same, why do you do such evil and wicked things? because:
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Jesus said:
28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
But do they even care? Hell is the whip my friends, the fear of it should drive out all ungodliness.
We need to let the Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, according to the Word of God turn our sinful habits over, drive our sinful enjoyments out, whip our sinful attitudes right out our lives.
They dont belong there! And stop making the excuse that you are a work in progress, your not, you are just a sinner who does not want to let go of his sin.
“Go and sin no more” is the command Jesus gives, NOT Go and sin less.
Tables that Need to be turned over
Tables that Need to be turned over
Sinful Habits - The serious ones: Lust, porn, adultry, fornication.
The common ones - gossip( Both listening and sharing), spite, predudece...
5 Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure.
16 You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord.
Relational Sins: Husabnds love your wives and treat them with respect and dignity.
Wives, submit toi your husband and his leadership, honor him as the head of the house.
Children - honor yor mothers and fathers.
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Aquatence sins - Stop investing time with evil people you have nothing in common with. You need to drive some people who are your enemies out of your life.
1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
Lazy sins - Then there are the tables of laziness which prevent us from reading the bible daily and studing it, mining it for the life within. The lazy table which makes us to tired to pray and wait on God, the table whcih makes you to lazy to fast.
4 The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.
Heart sins: How could we forget the heart sins like pride, envy or unforgivness? Many of them have a booming trade in many christian lives....
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
