Why Jesus?
Why Jesus?
If you are a Christian you might find this question offensive.
If you are not a christian maybe this is the question you are trying to answer.
But to a Christian, this is not something you question.
I’m not asking you to question why we worship Jesus, I am asking you to observe it.
Why? Because that is precisely what the author of Hebrews is asking the readers to do.
Read Heb 2:5-8
For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking.
Out of all of God’s creation, it was Christ that God chose to save us.
The issue here might have been angel worship, but thin about us today and all the “things” the world honors over Christ.
The author is keeping their focus on Christ as he shows His glory.
It has been testified somewhere, “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him?
Verse 6: author refers them to a psalm to support his point about Christ.
In order for us to understand the point the author is making let’s consider the psalm he is referencing. (Psalm 8:4-6)
Psalm 8
Psalm 8
Ps 8:1-3 = This is a Psalm (song) of WORSHIP!!!!
You might recognize it because it is still a worship song!!!
Ps 8:3 – important segue into our reference
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
Consider the power of God
How often do you stop and just consider God’s greatness, sovereignty?
How often do you look at creation and consider, “ God made this.”
Not only did God make this but look at the
Consider the magnitude of God’s creation.
One of the great tragedies, and hindrances in the world (even in some churches) is the lack of authentic worship of God.
God is my buddy
In order to make God more appealing, approachable, like-able
We make like us.
God is NOT like us, but He does love us.
what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
What is man that you are mindful of him
How, God, could I even be a thought that crosses you mind.
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
Or the Son of man that you care for Him.
Not only do you think about be
You sent you son to live among us!!!!
God thinks about us and He came to us!!!
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
Jesus left heaven and took His place “a little lower than the angels.”
(then) “Crowned Him with glory and honor.”
I praise you for your greatness, and I praise for your amazing love.
putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
From that place of worship let’s consider the reality of who Jesus Christ is.
In Hebrews we are being asked to consider:
What does it mean that God put “Everything is in subjection to Him.” ?
“He left nothing out of His control.”
We understand Christ is sovereign but we don’t really “see” Christ as sovereign.
What we can see is a fallen world.
We worship Christ for who He is not what we see.
We want something tangible to worship.
So did the pharisees, “show us a sign.”

next question (closing question)
We know that we are the church.
Why does the church exist?
Why does the church exist?
We exist because of this amazing love that God has for us.
We exist because God wants so must more for us.
We exist because God was satisfied with us going our own way.
We exist because Jesus loved us enough to pay our price for us.
We exist to let other people know that.
We individually exist for a relationship with God.
Our relationship involves our worship of God.
We collectively exist so other can know what is being offered to them.
Evangelism, like our faith, becomes mechanical when we lose our first love. We lose our first love when we forget why we love Him in the first place.
If you don’t routinely ask yourself why Jesus, you will be tempted to forget the answer.
Then what kind of message are you sharing.
It’s an empty message…and that probably why you don’t share it.
