Peace
Peace
I would like to explore two type of peace that are very important in our lives. Ben is taking a approach that focuses on the character of Saul, which is going to be exciting and very enlightening. Im going to focus one virtue for every two weeks that I speak. As I thought about what virtue would be profitable to study with our group, I thought about how Christians today are often lacking in peace. Specifically, we are lacking God’s peace in our spirit and actions throughout the day. We are also lacking personal peace in who we are and our role in God’s world.
In the OT, God promised peace to his people, Israel, if they obeyed his laws and commands.
Leviticus 26:6
King James Version Chapter 26
And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
Jn14:27
In the NT, Jesus was ushered in by angels that were proclaiming he brought peace on earth and goodwill toward men.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Paul commonly would begin his letters by asking for Grace and Peace to be given to the churches he was administering to. This shows that peace was truly a gift of God that could be given to men. Which leads me to what I’d like to share with you tonight.
The Peace that passes all understanding is available from our heavenly Father.
The peace of God can fill our spirit and actions everyday.
Philippians 4:8-9
King James Version Chapter 4
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are shonest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
