Called or Chosen

Luke 9:57–62 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:57-
How many can remember playing kick ball or basketball in school.
Maybe for you it was soccer.
But the teacher would pull the whole class together and then assign two captains to pick teams.
It never failed, you would pick teams and then get down to the last couple kids that were not very good.
At this point the two captains really did not care which kid they had on their team because the rest of the kids were not very good.
So one of the captains would say take who ever you want and give me who ever is left.
To me that is a perfect example of called or chosen
You see the teacher called everyone together
The teacher made everybody play the game
The teacher would get everyone lined up and set the rules for the game
But then it would be the captain who would begin to pick the teams
Each captain would pick the best kids that they felt could help them win the game
But when they got down to the last couple kids the captain did not care anymore because he already picked the kids that he wanted.
At this point if you were the last couple kids to be picked you knew you were not chosen you where just called.
Oh I can remember one of the first times I went from chosen to called in a pick up game of basketball.
I was so upset, because I knew there was a day when I was always chosen in the top two to three picks.
But now I’m this old short fat guy who used to be chosen and now I must accept the fact that in a game of basketball I will usually just be called.
I am so thankful that in the kingdom of God I do not have to settle for being called
I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be chosen
I am so glad that God does not judge me by mans standards
I am so glad that God doesn’t look down and say wow
that man has gained a lot of weight
he is really short
he is out of shape
he is getting older
he can’t do the same things he used to do when he was 20
there is no way I would chose him, he cannot be a benefit to the kingdom of God.
I am thankful for
I am thankful for
1 Samuel 16:7 KJV 1900
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
I am thankful for a God who looks way past our outward appearance
I am thankful that He looks through our imperfections
I am thankful He looks past our failures
I am thankful He looks past our weaknesses
I am so grateful that He looks at our heart
Many are called but few are chosen and we are not chosen by outward appearance
We are not chosen by our successes or our failures
We are chosen by our availability to be used in his kingdom
Matthew 22:1–14 KJV 1900
And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.
