Introduction: Today we are going to look at a subject that is becoming contraversial once again - The role of Israel as a nation, and the Church as an institution. The Church is the Local church

In this one parable, we see the care of God for Israel, the Patience of God for them and His love for them.

We also see the response of the nation of Israel to God.

Finally, we see how this applies to us today in a surprisingly similar way.

They simply had a good deal going on here! No preparation, just move in and maintain the fruitbearing state.

They were not satisfied with the agreement they had made.

They did not want to give to the owner what was HIS!

They wanted it for themselves…GREED.

The Servants of the LORD represent the Prophets whom God sent to remind the nation of its obligations and to call the people and rulers alike to the subjection that due to God. *Jesus Himself claimed to have sent the prophets in

Prophets, Priests

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

The Judgment of the Owner speaks of God removing His using of the nation of Israel as His primary way to make Himself known in the world. They are no longer the light in this dark world…the Church has replaced Israel as God’s tool for now, but we are not Israel.

In 41 they answer with a vehement desire for justice; in verse 45, they realize they have spoken their sentence before the judge!

Their carefully crafted reputations meant they feared the people. If they lost respect in the eyes of the people then the Romans would not need them to help keep the peace and they would lose their position, power and importance.

God owns the Vineyard!

You are either owned by sin and the Devil, or you are owned by God and His Liberty from sin.

We are bought with a price! God owns US!

- They had religion, OT Bible religious methods, but that OUTWARD FORM was not enough.

Many are focused on the portions of God’s Word that they like, or that they agree with, instead of setting the Word as THE Authority in belief, worship style, lifestyle, goals and salvation.
