Intro

is the longest chapter in all of the Bible
The overarching theme of this Psalm is God’s love and the love of God’s Word
is an acrostic. There are 22 sections, each beginning with one of the 22 letters in the Hebrew Alphabet. Each section has 8 lines.

We are told in this passage that God’s Word will bring 4 things:

The Word of God Brings WISDOM

In verse 98 the Scripture says that God’s Word will make us wiser than our enemies. The question at hand, then, is what is wisdom? We are told that Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived.
Wisdom is not the same as knowledge. A minister, a Boy Scout, and a computer expert were the only passengers on a small plane. The pilot came back to the cabin and said that the plane was going down but there were only three parachutes and four people. The pilot added, “I should have one of he parachutes because I have a wife and three small children.” So he took one and jumped. The computer whiz said, “I should have one of the parachutes because I am the smartest man in the world and everyone needs me.” So he took one and jumped. The minister turned to the Boy Scout and with a sad smile said, “You are young and I have lived a rich life, so you take the remaining parachute, and I’ll go down with the plane.”The boy Scout said, “Relax, Reverend, the smartest man in the world just picked up my knapsack and jumped out!
The computer whiz said, “I should have one of the parachutes because I am the smartest man in the world and everyone needs me.” So he took one and jumped.
The minister turned to the Boy Scout and with a sad smile said, “You are young and I have lived a rich life, so you take the remaining parachute, and I’ll go down with the plane.”
The boy Scout said, “Relax, Reverend, the smartest man in the world just picked up my knapsack and jumped out!
Solomon’s wisdom was given (). However, we are told to seek wisdom out ()
says if we lack wisdom we should ask. But then we should LOOK FOR IT.
In the Bible, wisdom is portrayed as living a Godly life; not just knowing more, but acting with holiness.

The Word of God Brings INSIGHT

The word insight can be defined as the ability to see deeply into a situation
Have you ever met a insightful person? Yeah me too. Some people are naturally insightful. God has made them with an ability to see things and analyze things in a particular way that others just do not have. However, these people may have a special ability to see things like this, but the rest of us are not left out in the dark. That is because the Bible says that God’s Word will bring insight. Most of this insight will be foolish to the non-Christian world, as we read in
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), .
Those without God evaluate things on the level of, happiness, wealth, health, etc. Christians, However, also evaluate on spirituality, relationship with God/Church/ etc.

The Word of God brings UNDERSTANDING

Understanding, Biblically speaking, is the ability to see with both head and heart. Vine’s dictionary uses the idea of “getting past the emotions’
Consider Job, Jon was a man who had understanding. In the midst of the most tragic situation of his life- lost home, family, livelihood, health, etc. Job does not take the bait of the enemy and curse God. No, he understands that the situation is completely in God’s purview and remains faithful. Understanding is not dictated by outside influence like emotions and circumstance.
“14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

The Word of God brings PROTECTION

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), .
“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
that I might not sin against you.
Imagine that your heart is the most valuable thing in the world- and Scriptures places quite a value on it- wouldn’t you guard it as heavily as you can? Every Scripture that we store up in our hearts is like an archer on a castle wall. As the enemy approaches the walls, the archers take aim. This is the job of Scripture when we are under attack.
Without Scripture we allow the enemy easy access into our lives. We have a lower line of defense and before you know it the enemy is in the room of our heart. We have stress, worry, anger, and anxiety. Things that could have easily been defeated by the archers on the outside, but they were not at their posts, and we have been infiltrated.
