Background: Numbers 13:25-33 (esp. 30).

§  14:6     Caleb comes to Joshua: “You know the Word…” yes, Joshua was there too.

§  14:7-9  “The Mountain God promised me 45 years ago, I want that mountain. I did what God sent me to do.”

§  God has no children without a mission. No child whose job is only to warm a pew.

I.       Your Mountain Has Not Gone Away! (10)

A.     Mt. Hebron was still there, 45 years later.

§  I don’t know what God stirred in your heart yrs ago in that revival – but it’s still there.

B.     Caleb did not credit clean living  – said God kept him for this.

§  Do you have the sense of Caleb that God isn’t finished with you yet?

§  That mountain is still there; God still has something for you to do.

C.     Have you lost the passion that brought you to your knees?

§  Remember Romans 11:29 “the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable”.

II.    Your Mountain Is Where The Giants Are! (11)

A.     That parcel of ground was not conquered – Anakim still there.

§  Beautiful land – that’s why it was the land of the giants! And God said, “This will be yours!”

§  That is why the mountain is so special.

§  1 Corinthians 1:27-31

B.     The vision God gives always includes obstacles.

§  If we can achieve it on our own, no need for God to lead! Wastes His time!

§  The glory of God is to show you something that is beyond your strength to capture.

C.     Are you settled for the valley because someone discouraged you.

§  May have been one whose heart was discouraged by so-called wise counsel. Listened to 10 spies.

§  God calls us to things impossible to do, in our own strength.

D.     Remember, God doesn’t give everyone your vision.

§  Only 2 of 12 spies got the vision.

§  Nor does everyone have the faith to follow His promises.

§  But don’t see the giants through another’s eyes.

III. Your Mountain Has To Be Conquered! (12)

§  Ministry is hard work.

§  2 Corinthians 4:1, 7-8, 16-18.

§  It is in the obstacle that you find your mission.

§  The negative report of the ten spies defined God’s calling for Caleb’s life. (12)

§  He might be a grasshopper, but he was God’s grasshopper.

§  Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

 Conclusion:

§  No matter how much water has gone under the bridge, God’s mission for you has not gone away.

§  Look at Moses, whose life mission was interrupted by his own sin, later by his lack of confidence.

§  Yet God’s desire for Moses never changed.

§  The giants may have scared you off. God knew they were there before you did.

§  Others may have “wisely” discouraged you – listen to God’s Word.

§  Hebrews 12:1-4.
