Jerusalem fell in 586 B.C.
Our text picks up around 538 B.C.
50 years without God honoring/True sacrifice.
7th Month (Tishri)
The month of Tishri had three feasts:
Booths, Atonement, and Tabernacles
But something had to occur for Israel to be able to worship/sacrifice.
For 50 yrs the sacrifices that would have been made on the altar were not of God.
For 50 yrs the worship was fraudulent/fake/powerless.
Can our worship become worthless before God?
There are times when we just need to...
Clear The Stage
Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols
Jerk the pews & all the decorations, too Until the congregations few, then have
revival
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends
Until you're broken for your sins, you can't be social
Then seek the Lord & wait for what He has in store
And know that great is your reward so just be hopeful
'Cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong
-Jimmy Needham
When we have had a time where everything has become an idol…even the worship, there needs to be a time of clearing away.
There needs to be a time of making new.
In vs. 2 Ezra is giving us a bit of information that is not necessarily chronological.
The seventh month they celebrated and they built an altar.
But before the altar could be put in place the old altar, the tainted altar, had to be torn down.
Why did the old altar need to be torn down?
Build The Altar…Put it In Position
Worship Wholly...
The Psalmist says:
Build The House
