Encouragement and Joy!

In great tribulation a church was born Act17:1-9) and they endured and suffered for the sake of the gospel. The journey with the church then was not over there was a great day coming still and Paul did not want anyone to miss the promise or the warning of it.
Paul was concerned for them and their strength (1The3:1-5)
Paul proclaimed the joy and comfort that had because of their perseverance (1The3:6-10)
Paul loved to boast of them (2The1:4)
Paul wanted to assure them and encourage them (1The4:13-18)
Paul wanted to make them understand that their suffering made them worthy of kingdom of God (2The1:5)
And a great day was coming that God would recompense for their suffering (2The1:6)
2 Thessalonians 1:6 NASB95
6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
May we enter into our study today with a full understanding, or come to an understanding that there is like we like to sing “A great day coming”
2 Thessalonians 1:7–8 NASB95
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 1:9–10 NASB95
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed.
2 Thessalonians 1:11–12 NASB95
11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

A day of honoring Jesus

Honor, it means high respect, great esteem. We may give Jesus all honor, glory and praise now, but one day it will be even more when He is revealed, glorified and marvelled.
Honor at the revelation of Jesus (2The1:7-8; Col3:1-4; Tit2:13; Heb928; Mt16:27; 2Pt3:7, 10-12)
(v.7) actually says “revealed” and coming from the Greek word it means an “uncovering” and “unveiling” - this is more than when the mystery which is Jesus Christ and more than the mystery which is the church it is the mystery of Jesus Christ being revealed from heaven.
Revealed because He is concealed from sight now; but one day every eye will see Him and will honor him, every tongue confess, every knee will bow.
Colossians 3:4 NASB95
4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
You will be revealed in glory when Christ is revealed from heaven; but I have to give you this in context so you can fully appreciate it
Colossians 3:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
Colossians 3:3–4 NASB95
3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
So knowing this, always be ready, always looking for our blessed hope (ref Tit2:13)
He is coming back for our final salvation (ref Heb9:28)
Coming back with His mighty angels (v.7 and ref Mt16:27) - may expand on this, this is not the cartoon angels that you see, these are mighty angels that are being held back right now, ready to bring God’s judgment
Mighty angels coming in flaming fire (v.7) which will be a day of fire and destruction for ungodly men (ref. 2Pt3:7) but look what more Peter has to say
2 Peter 3:10–11 NASB95
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
2 Peter 3:11 NASB95
11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
Stop, think, consider how we should be living now. Paul brought strong words because of concern but also out of care for the church as does Peter in encouraging us how to live while we wait for the day of honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
A day Jesus will be glorified too (2The1:10, 12; Php2:9-11)
Glorified and honored as you look at vv. 10, 12
WHereas there are many who reject Him now, many despise Him and use His name in vain the great day coming everyone who know Him
Philippians 2:9–10 NASB95
9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
Philippians 2:11 NASB95
11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
A day of glory! A day of glory in His saints, look again at v.10, that was the church then, and the church. Jesus is glorified in the church, and that is YOU! Glorified because of the work of the church we do now as we await the revelation that is from heaven!
Jesus will be marveled (2The1:10; 1The2:13)
He will be marveled wondered at held in admiration depending on version you read, but it was be a great day won’t it?
He will be marveled by those who believe (v.10); by those who accept the word of the apostles
1 Thessalonians 2:13 NASB95
13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.
Marveled by those who put faith and trust in Jesus without even seeing Him, while He is still hidden in heaven.
For there is still more about this Great Day Coming for it too is a day of judgment too.

A Day of Judgment

A day of judgment bringing rest and relief for some. A time of glory for others, and a great and dreadful day for others as it is a day of punishment.
A great and terrific day for some (2The1:7; 4-5; Mt5:9-11; Mt13:41-43; Rev21:1-7)
To those who have been afflicted (v.7) who have or are suffering (vv.4); all for the sake of the kingdom, also makes you think of Mt5:9-11.
A time of rest, a time of relief (v.7; Mt13:41-43) - read slowly, purposefully
Matthew 13:41–42 NASB95
41 “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:43 NASB95
43 “Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Rest in the kingdom of heaven as promised! as you can read more on that in Rev21:1-7 and you can see how John tried to describe it from his vision. No more tears, no more death no more mourning or crying, or pain!
A time of glory for Jesus, disciples and for you who are in Him (v.12; 1Pt1:7)
proven faith that is more precious than gold that will result in praise, glory and honor at the revelation of of Jesus Christ. Persevering faith’s results!
I think I would like a second to remind of us the glory
2 Thessalonians 1:12 NASB95
12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
GLORY in you, because of God’s grace given to you through Jesus Christ!
While a great day for the believers who persevere it is a dreadful day for those who do not respond to the gospel.
Dreadful, terrible day for unbelievers or rebels to the gospel (2The1:8; Heb10:30-31; Jer9:23-24; ROm1:18-21, 28; Heb5:9; 1Pt4:17)
A time that the Lord brings on His recompense; what a word, in case I have not given you the definition when used before it means: compensation or reward given for loss or harm suffered or effort made.
A good biblical usage
Hebrews 10:30–31 KJV 1900
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
because of the affliction brought on to them, and to other Christian’s throughout the ages (v.6); others because they did not know God, and there is nothing more important than that. I love how Jeremiah but it in Jer9:23-24, may i just paraphrase it.
Don’t boast of your wisdom, might or riches, boast of the God you know who is loving and exercises justice (judgment).
For many still today refuse to know Him (ref. Rom1:18-32, 28)
For those who do not obey the gospel (v.8), for the gospel must be obeyed
The gospel must be obeyed, it has things to believe, and commands to believe (Jn3:16; Rom10:9-10; Act2:38) for this great day coming is a time of punishment (v.6, 9)
God loved us, calls for us to believe, confess, repent, and be baptized for forgiveness of sins for this day is a day of punishment and you need to be right before for God will
Bring righteous repayment; especially to those who troubled his people (v.4, 6)
This is a time of eternal destruction and separation from the presence and the power of the Lord.

(Conclusion/Invitation)
There is a great day coming, for some great and rewarding, to others it will great in wrath and judgment, we need to know where we stand. Previously I quoted 2Pt3:12, but I would like you to listen to Peter’s words in context
(Not on the screen and leave it that way; read slowly, emphatically)
2 Peter 3:10–11 NASB95
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
2 Peter 3:12 NASB95
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!
or the words of Jesus Himself
(again not on the screen; keep it that way)
Matthew 7:21–22 NASB95
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
Matthew 7:23 NASB95
23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
What will this great day coming bring you? Are you prepared for it? (invitation)
******when I say have you put on Christ? then change to invitation slide 2*****
