The images of spear tips being hurled at him inspired the concept of a needle carrying thread in its tip. Struggling to understand the structure of benzene, German chemist Friedreich Kekule dreamed about six snakes in a circle, biting each other’s tails. On awaking he realized that the hexagon represented benzene’s molecular structure.
