When You hear His Voice
When you hear God, do NOT be like a certain people…
This passage is calling into view your response to God.
However, not the immediate response as much as the heart level response.
Referencing Psalms 95:7-11
Talking about those “in this flock”
If you are here today… this is talking about YOU.
It is possible to be associate with God’s people (flock)
And not actually be a part of it.
Just because you see God move doesn’t mean you are a part of that movement.
· Scripture supports this
This sort of apostasy provokes God and calls for His wrath.
o Some look at this passage and wonder
“ Can a Christian lose their salvation?”
I don’t believe that you can lose your salvation.
When you heard and believed
Were sealed by the Holy Spirit
Who is the guarantee of our inheritance.
When it comes to “Losing salvation” there are two options:
I am wrong and you can in-fact love your salvation
This issue then is obvious.
You have something to lose.
I am right, you cannot lose your salvation.
Then why are there so many passages like this one?
Why should we care about our relationship?
(It’s guaranteed)
A relationship with God has never been “Get it and forget it”
Maybe the point should be:
Even as a Christian you should SERIOUSLY consider your salvation.
True faith makes God the priority.
Verse 12 lays the responsibility on you.
Take Care – carefully consider how you handle this particular situation
Consider what is in your heart.
Look inside yourself for an evil unbelieving heart.
Verse 13 lays responsibility on all of us.
Exhort – encourage
That means you take the faith of others seriously as well
That means you notice when someone is struggling
This describes long term relationships in the body of Christ.
“Today”:
Act while you have the opportunity.
Today you have a choice in how you respond.
