I.       The Consequences of Disobedience (1:6)

A.     The frustration of your efforts. (6a)

B.     The futility of your efforts. (6b)

§  “He who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.”

II.    The Call to Obedience (1:7-8)

A.     Consider your ways!

B.     They had built their own houses, but not God’s

C.     God takes pleasure in their obedience. He gets glory from obedience.

III. Human effort cannot overcome consequences of disobedience. (1:9-11)

A.     Only obedience resolves problems and restores blessings.

B.     (8-11) God nullified their efforts. They needed to call upon the Lord.

C.     (9) The sin: they had ignored the temple rebuilding. God’s word needed to be preached to show error. No other answer to unblessed state but to turn to God and obey.

Prosperity – not just making more money, but being satisfied with the money you make.

They were to judge their deeds by the results. The same applies to judging your excuses by the results. God disappointed them in all their expectations. And the visitations continued as long as the negligence lasted.

Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

IV.  Blessings are to those who yield to God. (1:12-15)

A.     They yielded to God. They returned to the work.

1:12-15 Blessed are the people who yield to God to do His work in His appointed time. blessings will follow.
